I don't really see how either side could say they won. Particularly the cowards hiding in Syria.
Exactly, what did anyone achieive during this war? Absolutely fuck all. Did Israel break Hamas? Nope, they have just bolstered the ranks thanks to the civilian losses. Congrats, you'll now be dealing with this problem for another few decades. Did Hamas "drive Israel into the sea"? lmfao and they never will. Israel is there to stay no matter how hard they try to delude themselves.

So the outcome was? Well, 500ish Hamas dudes died, that's a plus - the less fundies the better. About 700 civilians died, the family and friends of whom will probably join Hamas now. Oh yeah, the IDF bombed the shit out of the UN, because those guys are macho-terrywrists. They managed to bomb a couple hospitals, a bunch of schools a couple of medical centers blah blah, collateral damage.

Anyone here heard that the cost to build Gaza will be around 1 billion pounds? I really want to see where they'll end up getting the money.
There was an interview last night with Sara Roy, who is the worlds leading expert on Gaza and is the Professor for Middle East Studies at Harvard (iirc). She estimated that the war cost the already poor economy close to $5Billion. Keep in mind that you are talking about an economy that is being strangled from the outside. They suffer from food shortages, lack of medicine and an inability to trade thanks to the blockades in place by the IDF. Add to that the damage to infrastructure etc and you are up shit creek without a paddle. What does Israel expect the people living in Gaza to do now? Live off aid? They need to lift the blockade on essentials like food, medicine and let trade flow etc so that they can get back on their feet.

why rebuild it
So we can feel a sense of accomplishment the next time we destroy it; it's no fun smashing pre-broken glass.

Also, working infrastructure would reduce the number of unfavourable comparisons made between Gaza and the Jewish ghettos of the Nazi regime or earlier. [I am not going to make any comparison of the two here as I do not have enough knowledge of either situation to do the subject justice.]

You act as though the "UZI" is even worthy of note. It's a hunk of metal that fires pieces of lead in a "general direction" it's not neccessarily a weapon with any accuracy.

I would post the hilarious pictures made of the "nose dive" Merkava but would rather not right now.

In a war of attrition, whereby Hezbollah could evacuate all the people of Lebanon. Israel would be forced to concede defeat.

The difference being, Israel could not possibly evacuate it's population. And if they did, they would just open up a new front for Hezbollah who specialise in street fighting. (house to house).

Hezbollah is filled with men. Men who could truly be right out of 300, "death on the battlefield is the greatest glory", etc. Whereas the Israeli forces are mostly filled with little boys and girls who tote big guns. Hezbollah put Israel to shame on the ground in the south of Lebanon, and that's a place they could arially bombard. But if Hezbollah pushed into Israel, that would nullify their air superiority and force Israel into a guerilla war amongst their populations or in their own forts.

The best part is Israel has built everything an invading army could ask for. Bomb shelters, warning systems, watch towers. Hezbollah with a little help from other men around the region could take Israel in a few short weeks. They could reach the first few air bases in half that time nullifying even more of Israel's advantages.
You're seriously gunna try and say that Israel doesn't have a very large and sophisticated internal defence industry??

Uzi is good for what it is dude, it isn't designed to be accurate at all.

Merkava is a world class mbt, lol world class at crashing obviously.

You really think that Hezbollah and a few other arabs could take Israel in a few short weeks? Because that would show you lack of understanding of war etc.

Hezbollah were effective against Israel in southern lebanon because they use guerilla tactics. Good for defending against superior invading army, not so good for invading.

Protesters trampled Hyde Park, says gardener
ABC - January 19, 2009, 2:41 pm
A gardener at Sydney's Hyde Park has complained weekend protesters caused several thousand dollars worth of damage.

Thousands of people marched to the park yesterday to demonstrate against Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

Sydney City Council's head gardener for Hyde Park, Nathan Gray, says the demonstrators trampled over several flower beds and left rubbish around the gardens.

"There's a fair bit of damage done," he said.

"All the annual beds that we are probably supposed to have ready for the Australia Day celebrations have all been crushed so it's a bit disappointing. We're in a bit of a bind because they've crushed probably a few thousand this time."

The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils says it is unsure who organised yesterday's rally.

The group says that speakers at the event were advising protesters to be responsible with their rubbish.

The oil-rich Arab states probably.
Nah, last time Lebanon&Israel went had their thing, the Arabs put little money. I think Saudi Arabia gave Israel more money than it gave Lebanon too.. :/

Build or rebuild? Cos 1 billion pounds for the building of an entire city-state seems like a bargain to me, considering the sprawling mass of hovels and mud-brick homes that constitute the entire region.
Re-build. And they have nothing atm, i think they have supplies, but most homes are destroyed so the people can't really go anywhere.

&this is just to actually rebuild the place, nothing about the supplies, medical crap etc.

Well even a billion for rebuilding the place doesn't seem too bad. Considering there are 1.5 million people there. Hell, even Zimbabwe could probably afford to foot that bill.

Israel failed to stop the rockets
Israel failed to make a significant dent in Hamas
Thousands of innocent Palestinians are dead
Hamas has slightly increased sympathy (so from like, 0 to 1!)
Israel's reputation is absolutely tarnished

A great war. Go go Israel!

I suppose that it all depends now on what happens regarding the blockade of Gaza. Despite thousands of dead Palestinians, Hamas might be able to claim victory if their country is opened up again. Totally not worth it, of course, but that's something to think about in the coming weeks.

I dread to see how much the death toll spikes by also, considering that Gazans can now unearth fallen buildings and what not.

fascist..let me ask you how many terrorists were killed? 419 children are terrorists right? also zionist, the whole world is against you, you only have dumbfuck americans and jewish faggots supporting you but anyone with half a brain would realize what terrorists you are. israel doesnt even exist, you are only occupyers, and if u dont believe me read bout ur own fucked up history, im not anti jewish, but im anti zionist by far. Imagine you are kicked out of your own country, thrown into the slums, and road blocked by the israeli army. everytime a palestinean needs to get out of gaza for an emergency as such they are stopped and can be denied entry on any basis, now if that same persons son or daughter dies becuase he cant get to a hospital what happens? decades of oppression lead people to do such acts of violence against israel. also on another note, the kids that were afflicted mentally due to this war and other events, grow up with a passionate hate for you and who would blame them, they just lost thier whole family and saw thier parents shot infront of them, would you still be normal? hamas arent terrorists, they are a legitimately elected goverment, its just the israeli army faction and everything that goes with it that are terrorists, may god fuck your country up. amen

And Australia.

Really? Which atlas are you using?
you are only occupyers,
What else can a nation be but a group of people occupying a certain area of land?
and if u dont believe me read bout ur own fucked up history,
Seems to me that Israel initially belonged to the Jews before the religion-of-peace-founded-on-war came and seized it from them.
im not anti jewish, but im anti zionist by far. Imagine you are kicked out of your own country, thrown into the slums,
I can assure you that of all peoples the Jews are most acutely aware of such injustices, and far worse.
everytime a palestinean needs to get out of gaza for an emergency as such they are stopped and can be denied entry on any basis, now if that same persons son or daughter dies becuase he cant get to a hospital what happens?
There are plenty of instances of ambulances crossing the border to deliver Palestinians to superior medical care in Israeli hospitals. Funnily enough when Gazans attempted to escape into Egypt they were fired on by Hamas.
decades of oppression lead people to do such acts of violence against israel. also on another note, the kids that were afflicted mentally due to this war and other events, grow up with a passionate hate for you and who would blame them, they just lost thier whole family and saw thier parents shot infront of them, would you still be normal?
Tbh I'd be pretty pissed off at the arsehole hoarding weapons underneath my apartment block.

EDIT: I'll also point out that Hamas were the ones stating that they wanted to hunt down and murder children specifically.

But that's just rebuilding, what about the homes lost, and everything in them? What about furniture that needs to be bought again? And people who need medical support for months, years or the rest of their lives?

Oh&i heard on another channel that it was 1 1/2 billion, yesterday.
