1. You're not going to need 512mb graphics for 'light gaming'. In fact I'm not sure if anything below an x600GT comes with 512mb of memory.
2. Buy a Dell Studio 15, or a Thinkpad if you're willing to splash out a little bit more for something which will last forever.
3. Get a student discount by going to Dell EPP, and also search Whirlpool Broadband Forums to see if you can find any % off coupons to stack on top of that.
4. If you must buy something else, avoid HP like the plague. They look nicely specced but the battery life is 90 minutes if you're lucky and the user experience is simply awful.
Thanks heaps for that!!!

I totally forgot about Whirlpool. Was looking at the Dells, now seriously looking. Thanks man.

Try MSY, if you're looking for something in Asus. pretty decent laptops there.

That toshiba deal is actually fucking awful.
Agreed.

Just so you know though, WRT video cards; v-ram doesn't really mean shit all. You could have 1gb on a crap video card and wouldn't make a diference (maybe 1 or 2 FPS better). Higher Vram is only noticeable at higher resolutions.
