just wondering what proportion of you guys agree with me that mathematica is infinitely better than maple

There is no simple answer of which one is better. Both does what it is designed to do efficiently. For high school use there is no difference between the functionality of the two. Personally I prefer Mathematica just because I use it more often and know more commands for it, but Maple isn't bad. I'd say Mathematica has an overall edge over Maple but it is certainly not infinitely better.

I use mathematica at home because I have a legal copy of it... at uni, they only have maple. But that aside, I think mathematica is more useful for most of the stuff I do.. except for my last assignment! I had no idea on how to get an add-on (for smith normal form) to work... which meant I had to go back to uni to do that part of the assignment... grr....
whereas maple has it in its set of original functions, hence easier to figure out.
