uhm...nothing to do with the thread

but...

liliputian's sig has the word 'anus'.

sorry, I just cracked up seeing this foreign looking sentence only to find a not-so-foreign looking word at the end of it.

it's latin,
'Spectare ad immanus magnitudinus anus'

spectare: observe, watch, look at, see; test; consider

ad: to, up to, towards; near, at; until, on, by; almost; according to

immanis, immane, immanior -or -us, immanissimus: huge/vast/immense/tremendous/extreme/monstrous; inhuman/savage/brutal/frightful

anus: old woman; hag; matron; old maid; sibyl, sorceress; foolish/cringing person

to observe, or watch an immense old woman?
am i on the right track? :)

we had to write poetry in japanese last year... it sounded good in japanese, but then you translated it and it ended up being about a snake that ate a goldfish

I've been writing poetry for a few years now. My ext 2 work is about EVOLUTION. except, i have around 3000 words and only about 1000 of them relate directly to evolution. and i mean that in tersm of biology, society, culture, individuals, the universe etcetc.

I have a very scientific and philosophical slant. Alot of technical accuracy, technical words and poems based on themes that are established philosophical concepts.

I would love to look over other's work, and maybe swap and see the standard and stuff. ....

came 2nd place in a young writers comp. that was cool.

Who knows how strict the formatting restrictions/guidelines are? They say:
Times, Arial, size 12, double spacing

I want to use size 10.5 Veranda. Its a very clear font, i like the look of it. it is neutral, unlike the other two, which reflect newpaper and... something else crappy. I also need the 10.5 size font for some fancy indenting arrangements and things.

the ones in the showcase weren't double spaced... Does it mean between words or lines or stanzas or what?

Double spaced means there is a line between each line like this

You can double space things by highlighting your text in your

word processor, going to paragraph, spacing, then selecting

double spacing.

Enough with that. Your idea sounds really impressive, I like your concept of evolution. I'm in a bit of disarray at the moment (my topic is dance and culture, and I have only written about 1000 words of poetry so far and it all needs a ton of editing)... but things shall come together in the end hopefully, they usually do!!!

Good luck all!!

Yes, but do you know how important it is? Is it vital? Because i think it screws up the look of the poetry. Format and layout are REALLY important, and i reckon double spacing makes it look silly.

I understand what you are saying.... for the forms I'm using it's not really an issue though. Perhaps you should try and get your teacher to contact an english consultant at the Board of Studies to see what they say about it.

I would reckon that the format given is rather strict.
I was a bit dismayed at first too. the double space seemed too...empty, too big.

they're probably kinda old people with bad eyesights.

anyway, my poetry's going nowhere. still pretty much on the same spot. few scribbles here and there but not much.
head needs some shakin' so I can start breathing life into words again.
