Pre WW2 hegemony was with England. Post WW2 hegemony was with USA. The cold and vietnam wars and the war on terrorism and afganistan was an attempt to re-establish it. The hegemony is shared between USA and china at the moment. U r right with india being the next power, but it has been overlooked by the rest of the world. But i don't think that it will have the power to over take china until another 30years. i agree completely with you, the most likely scenario is simply a continuation of these proxy wars, however unlikely though it is if the two nations did choose to obliterate each other the most likely vehicle would be arming a separatist or terrorist group with a WMD.

Yeah let me know how that works out for you, what with fusion bombs not being used these days for anything other than a deterrent because conventional bombs are cleaner, more controllable and all, let alone Russia not being at war with anybody of consequence.

The Georgian's are attacking their citizens and they respond. They sent the tanks in. I remember when Australian and American citizens as far as Tripoli, Lebanon were being bombed by Israeli jets, we didn't get so much of a peep from Bush on the issue. Instead he implored countries he was hostile to, to find a solution for his problems, rather than condemn, or be as brazen as the Russians to retaliate and defend their people.

I'm not going to be overly critical. The government agencies did a wonderful job, and did everything they could to get them back home and safe. But politically, not a peep.

Either way, Russia is in the right here. Just as we in Australia would not accept the needless deaths of 2,000 of our citizens, the mighty Russia will not accept it either.

I'm so proud, proud to see this world may finally see justice once more. The glorious Russians and Chinese which erased Nationalism, and Nazism at great expense in the Second World War, one small conflict at a time is doing the same again. As they assert their dominance in the world and in their regions, one can only look on with admiration.
