Dude, Brogden was a gutless little prat until he tapped some arse and told Carr what we've all been saying for years.

Give that man a New.

Our premier is just getting shitter and shitter... Bob Car.. then Lemma then now this Rees dude.. he didnt even get voted.. Lemma quit and he is just lucky to fill in the spot.. I like that female acting premier when Rees is away, seen her in real life seen her answering questions to students. I think she is more serious and would think deeper into problems

As I understand it the more moderate members of the Labor Unity faction have gotten pissed off at the Trogs acting like they own the place and have chanced their allegiances to some of the more moderate members of the Labor Socialist Left, giving the LSL a slight dominance.

Not resign, nor be sacked. Stay. Make sure the liberals, who haven't managed NSW for several decades, don't gain power. Make massive upheavals of the labour party to get rid of all corruption, idiots and antiques. Easier said than done. Need a guy who can SIMULTANOUSLY keep up appearances and sucessfully manage the state, steering it into a new direction. Pretty much impossible.

Carmel Tebutt? Yeah shes a nice woman. She's the ex-education minister- got lots of good reviews for that job. However, I read from an interview from Good Weekend that she'll never accept the job for premier, even though she's porbably the best candidate for it- she said she got children and all the work shes doing will be detrimental to them. Shame really.

btw govt. should secretly siphon funds from benefits towards dole-bludgers and use it on education and public transport. Especially trains. ffs, what type of country has the trains SLOWER, MORE EXPENSIVE and DIRTIER than cars? Do they really expect us to use greenhouse-friendly transport when the alternatives are inferior in every respect?

sorry for the double post.

I would think she would be better suited as premier than Rees. Rees reminds me of Brendan Nelson.

get rid of labour altogether, rees and krudd. they're all crap and are only driven by unions. i love how they screw up the progress that the liberals made over the last decade or so by spending all the money [surplus] that liberal had left them. very intelligent. so then labour have to get people to pay more for everything else, and they take free things off people. good work.

Did you perhaps notice this financial crisis we're in? Or perhaps all the economists recommending we spend the surplus to protect the economy and people?

No, I didn't think so.

The fact an economist said it does not make it good economics, probably the opposite. They are overeducated twats who get their findings from fortune cookies, take the credit when things go well then blame people for not listening propperly when things go wrong, little do they realise they are for the large part just ignored.

I agree. Then turn around and blame governments for not implementing some kind of policy to stop this 'credit crunch' happening.

What an utterly paranoid generalisation.

Are you suggesting instead that the Government perhaps sit on the taxpayer-generated surplus instead of helping the taxpayers it belongs to and who they are accountable to?

yep, great, the government is wasting the surplus by giving people who are on the dole who can't be bothered to get jobs, so we pay for their lives, $1000 dollars per kid for christmas, who are most likely to go out and spend it on booze, or gambling, nothing that is helping the economy at all, but the government is helping the community and the financial crisis. also, the people who pay more tax aren't even getting benefits. wow, they're just great aren't they?

You really are a fucking moron if you think a) that's what happened, or b) a fiscal stimulus is the only way the surplus (which still exists, for now) is being spent.

You might be interested to know that the financial crisis actually directly diminished the surplus without the government even raising a finger (by about 50% I believe). Not least of all because government revenue is based on taxes which are based on the strength of the economy.

I bet you're completely unaware of the tax cuts Rudd made in the middle of the year, or the part of the surplus he's used for infrastructure and business stimulus.

And you're right: the people who pay the most tax (i.e. the rich) didn't get part of the stimulus. This is because the biggest engine of consumption in capitalism is the lower and middle classes, not the upper class, but more importantly when the lower and middle classes get hit by a financial crisis, they are far more vulnerable then the upper class (because they have a smaller income base with which to buy the bare essentials), thus are more likely to stop consuming to ensure they can afford to live.

You might also be interested to know that Howard actually left a relatively small budget surplus (even though he wracked up a massive revenue over time) because he spent most of it during his terms.

i never said all of the surplus was being used for that. and it is what's happened. also, a lot of middle class people don't get these benefits because of low cut-offs.

eh. to be honest i don't really give a crap, i don't listen to the news everyday, or read the newspaper, so i probably don't know 90% of what goes on in politics and our government, but from the things i do see, i know is that labour won't be getting my vote at the next election.

Nah, don't listen to Trefoil.

Sometimes he's sensible, other times he goes off on his left-wing rants... just don't catch him in a bad mood.

And Trefoil, I feel we've had this discussion. We ended up, last time, agreeing that Rudd need to stimulate the economy and that this would cost large sums of money. We also agreed that he could have done it through more sensible means. (And by agree, I mean, I argued and you diverted the argument.)
