I'm hoping to keep this separate from the Gaza thread etc. Due to the recent conflict I've been youtubing and came across YouTube - Israel's "Colonies" - Anna Baltzer which called me to question whether or not the occupation, which is partly responsible for so much of the conflict, is legitimate or not. What are your views and opinions?

Edit:
To make it really clear, I'm talking about the occupied territories post-1967. NOT whether or not Israel has the right to exist as a country.

When you play with fire you get burnt.

The Arab states attacked Israel in 1967 losing that war they lost land.

As for a barrier to peace, Israel unilaterally withdrew from Gaza in 2005 with no intentions of returning - shame that the government resorted to terrorism rather than building relations with Israel.

What sort of guarantee does this give to the Israeli public and politicians for any plans to withdraw from the West Bank?

Gaza wasn't a good start why should they keep on going? The main barrier to peace is the failure to recognise the right of any Jewish State no matter what it's size in the region. (See: 1948 War of Independence)

Palestine sided with the Axis in WWII.

Germany lost land to the surrounding countries. Palestine loses land to Israel.

Borders shift throughout time, it's not imperialism, get over it.

Two state solution, blah blah blah.

Bunch of religious fuckjobs both sides
'Sif any of that is the be all and end all though. WWII need not be a FINAL SOLUTION...to the border situation of Europe. And it ain't. Similarly, Israels usurping of territories in every year subsequent to 1947 isn't the FINAL SOLUTION to that area. What type of stupid UNSW fuck believes that. Go kill yourself, penis breath.

Anyway, illegal or legal iuno. Seems kinda dumb and unfair to Arabs to have their land occupied by Israel. Noone wants the Jews there. It is silly for the Jews to be there. It is a waste for the Jews to be there. If Arabs don't want Israel in an area populated by Arabs, it's not that unwise to say that Israel should get the fuck out of that area rather than continuing its Arab schoolyard bully tactics.

If Israel continues to give Indian burns and nogies to Arabs, then do not be surprised when Israel is expelled from the Arab schoolyard!

A bigger barrier to peace is the way Israel launches wars on Arab states. lul

My heart goes out to all those in Ma'ale Adumim and Ariel, two settlements I had the privilege of visiting!

What are your stakes in the Israel/Palestinian conflict?

Are you "Palestinian"? Is your family from "Palestine"

Or are you just a stirer mongering hate for the Jewish people?

Because at the end of the day, people like yourself who have no stakes in the region cause more harm and destruction than those there.

When it came to boycotts in the United Kingdom by Academia, even the Arab University, Al Quds of Jerusalem did not want to participate as it would only harm the peace process between the two.

You don't care for Israel and you don't really care about Palestinians, your whole survival is based on a lasting conflict between the two parties so that you can have some fun and mask your anti-Semitism behind apparent Anti-Israel sentiment.

Once more, I value human life, and when I see a nation that slaughters that many lives, I am against it.

Pretty sure that I was against the Taliban mang.

Didn't Arafat recognise Israel many years ago?

Okay. The fact of the matter is. They are there, they've been there for a while, and they're not leaving anytime soon. Legal or not, those areas are occupied by innocent civilians (women, children, men), and they are not all responsible for collateral/innocent deaths.

Would the two state solution work in the current situation? I mean with Gaza and West Bank being on opposite sides of Israel and all :S.

I was reading about the proposition back in 2000 made in Camp David, I'm starting to see why it was rejected:

A Palestinian state would be established in most of the West Bank and all of the Gaza strip, with these conditions:

  • [*]The state would not have an army with heavy weapons,
[*]The state would not make alliances with other countries without Israeli approval and would not allow introduction of foreign forces west of the River Jordan.
[*]Israel would be allowed deploy troops in the Jordan Valley if Israel were to be threatened by invasion from the east.
[*]Israeli aircraft could overfly Palestinian airspace.
[*]Israeli would install early warning stations in the mountains overlooking the Jordan valley and other areas.
[*]Palestinians would control border crossings with Jordan and Egypt along with Israeli security observation.
[*]The Israelis would retain management over water sources in the West Bank while approving a limited quota to the Palestinians.
[*]Israel would lease areas in the Jordan Valley or maintain temporary sovereignty over them for up to 25 years.
From: Camp David Proposals for Final Palestine-Israel Peace Settlement

Pretty harsh terms IMO.

Didn't the Israelis attack first? Pre-emptive strike iirc. And from the video from my opening post on this thread:

International humanitarian law prohibits [an] occupying power [from transferring] citizens from its own territory to the occupied territory (Fourth Geneva Convention, article 49).
Palestine sided with the Axis in WWII.

Germany lost land to the surrounding countries. Palestine loses land to Israel.
I was referring to the colonies post-1967 in the West Bank etc, not whether or not Israel had a right to the original borders set out pre-1967.

The lands are spoils of war and israel as the victor of those israeli arab wars has the right to those lands. They were paid for by the blood of israeli soldiers.
