On a relative scale, 2000 and 2006 were clean. There will always be a hooligan element. And to say it's only England is a joke. And anyway, what good is a punchon every 2 years compared to the week in week out rubbish that occurs in Italy? The EPL is clean. Why? Because somebody noticed things were going pear shaped and decided to fix it before all hell broke loose. It's time somebody in Italy woke up and realised the parrallels between modern day Serie A and 80's English top flight.
Italy right now, comparing the violence aspect, is nowhere near as bad as England in the 80s. Hillsborough and Heysel were both tragic incidents, resulting in numerous deaths. And the Heysel incident resulted in English clubs being banned from European football for years, now that's unprecedented and I don't think anything of the same kind will ever happen in this day and age.

Italy needs to suppress the 'ultras', of which many of the associations are financially supported by the clubs. The unhealthy siege mentality between the teams is what's causing the problems, and it's the minority of the whole football population. And you think no one watches football live any more in Italy..? Just look at the San Siro yesterday, it was a full house.

There are more goals scored in Serie A because of Inter & Milan destroying minnows. Small teams outplaying big teams at home? WTF!

In Italian football there is rarely a home team. Why? Because nobody turns up to games. Why? Because they fear for their lives. Italian football is a shambles, everybody knows the Calcio must be totally revamped like the EPL was.
Yep, definitely agree with the bolded part. It is a corrupt and cynical footballing country but I was discussing the on-field merits of Serie A, and think that you are mistaken in believing that it is total drab.

For every boring Italian League game I could find you an equally boring Premiership game which would have far less footballing merits than the Italian one. Recent trends as well show that a lot more Italian clubs are trying to play a more expansive game. The pace is still slow, but there is at least as much attacking intent as there is in a league where everyone plays a conservative 4-5-1 style.

Italian football is not as bad as it has made out to be. The Serie A is quite an attractive league to watch, but their national team is different, mainly due to the conservative playing styles the coach often implements during major tournaments. Corruption has always existed in Italy, and it's about time something is being done about it. It can only get better from here.

Meanwhile, FA Cup semis have been drawn.

Blackburn vs Tottenham/Chelsea
Watford vs Man Utd/Middlesborough

Well it's a nice draw for us, hopefully Tottenham will get to knock out the blue kunts in the replay, preferably with a few injuries, or a few red cards, and on penalties. :D

Let me tell you something about the "ultras" mentality. The ultras do not beleive in fighting and hooliganism as such, they are there solely to support the club, home or away, winning or losing. To class ultras as hooligans and troublemakers is foolish. Furthermore, while the head of the ultras group may converse with stadium or club officials, they are NO WAY financially supported by the club. The whole idea of the ultras mentality is to remain seperate from the club. Ultras do not beleive in modern commercialisation. They are groups made by the fans for the fans.

Football is a funny game. We played the best game in like 3 weeks and only managed a draw, instead of winning when playing not so well in the previous games. Should've taken more chances but that's how things go in this sport.

I'm not expecting a treble, because that is something that can only happen once in a lifetime. If we do go on and repeat that feat, Sir Alex will become the greatest club manager ever.

Not true. They may not all be financially supported by the clubs, but they do have financial and other relationships with clubs. After the tragic incident at Catania, the Italian government have banned ultra groups from having any working link with football clubs.

Of course, not all ultras are hooligans. But if you remember Lazio ultra groups displayed the swastika during games a few seasons ago, and many of the troubles are started by members of these groups. They are essentially just fan groups, and many of its members are law abiding people. But what the world perceives the ultras is that they are hooligans, and something must be done to change the perception.

Fan groups who call themselves ultras but are financially supported by the clubs are anything but ultras.

You need to draw a distinction between what is an Ultras group and a "Fan Club". The "Fan Clubs" are those groups that exist purely to support the club. The Ultras do support the club, but they are Ultras because they cause trouble. To say that all Ultras are "hooligans" is absolutely correct. The Ultra mentality is that you WILL fight and if you don't, you're not an Ultra.

Not true either. Ultra groups started in the 60's as fan groups, and their organisation and activities behind the goals during games really liven up the atmosphere at games. Almost all clubs in Italy have Ultra groups, and of course not all of them cause trouble like we see on TV.

The media show us most of the time, the bad stuff that is going on in the world of football. U never see the newsreader say how good an overseas game was (apart from england on the rare occasion). U always hear about how a handbag fight broke out but not about beautiful passing or teamwork

I cant b fukd to read over it or add more

Completely wrong. Ultras are a mentality more than a group of people. Ill-informed people such as yourself automatically link flags, coreos, tifos and flares with hooliganism. It's so much more. There is no doubt some individuals who are "ultras" may fight, but to class all ultras as hooligans is plain retarded. Go back to watching Formula 1.

If there is any comfort for McClaren, it is that England are not facing Portugal next week because, with Ronaldo in this mood, they would be virtually unbeatable.
Well that says it all really.

Paul Robinson scored a goal, now that's big news. Hope he scores one too against Chelscum.

After the United game there wasn't much for me to watch, so I watched the big game in Germany between Schalke and Stuttgart. Big win for Schalke, having been under the pump for most of the game they came away with the points, their first win in quite a while. HeCtic should be concerned if Arsenal is linked with Hildebrand, because he was at fault really for the Schalke goal. Bayern lost too, just the week after news that Hitzfeld has extended his stay for one more season at the club. To make matters worse Kahn and Lucio have both been charged by UEFA for improper conduct after the game against Real Madrid in Munich.
