unless your in SA, in which case Boxing Day ISNT a public holiday, its been declared a non trade day but if you would ordinarily work and they need you to (affects fresh depts and storeman mainly to recieve loads as RDC is operating) then you can be rostered for it.

It would help your case if you can say "John Smith is happy to cover the shift" but you cant make that decision, still need managers ok. Hint for finding someone, casuals get 20% more than PPTs and pay is increased every year from 17 to 21 (varies between states I think) so try to find someone that costs the same as you or cheaper, but just as capable...

^ Yeah I keep forgetting Australia has different states with different rules...How do you guys keep up with it? lol

In NZ if you want a Public holiday off you take it and nothing can be done about it, it pretty much says that in our employment agreement. (Reworded professionally though)

Ours had to be done aaages ago too. Dont understand why?

I have Service Manager numbers again on the computer =D !!1!1

Also, is anyone else with SCO's having trouble with the coin dispenser Count?
E.g. Cash Management Report says there are 564 10c coins...but there are only 100 (counted them myself yesterday morning...its the same on every one of them! Some say they have 1000+ in them and it cant even fir that many! LOL, so to do change orders we have to look in them and estimate how much we will need.
Whats the G O?

That's how we always do change orders haha. After that last upgrade a lot of the office cashiers didn't realise you had to do enter everything by denomination when you pickup/additional funds so our counts got screwed up.

At my store (Coles), no one is allowed to take any time off (unavailable, unpaid, annual leave etc) in December. Basically have to fight for it.
Quite simple i usually don't work wed, thur, fri and i just said i couldn't work the monday, tue and sat sunday and i get in fairly early :)

Plus I have like another two weeks off from the 10-24th and then im having australia day night off :)

I've had at least 3 different CSM's since I began and I've always been able to take Annual Leave in December without any problems. I've never tried to get time off in December before Christmas, I would assume that that would be much harder .

When I applied for leave to be taken from 21 December to January 31, I was told that I can't because it was before Christmas. But I was able to book it in for Boxing Day onwards.

Speaking of which, when I applied for Annual Leave way back in March for the above mentioned dates, I was told a few weeks later it should be fine (it was approved). Fast forward to December 1, I thought I'd check for the sake of it. Turns out they don't have it on file and I had to fill out a new one despite that I had a copy of the original form filled out (with only my signature) and dated back in March?

Quick question, does anyone know if Area Trading specialists have @woolworths.com.au email accounts?

For EBA staff ability to take time off tends to be store dependant, its not a blanket rule woolies wide, some area managers even encourage it as its a good time to get annual leave down because you have more staff able to cover the shifts...

[Big W] - Just wondering if they can fire me for not being able to work from the 17th December to 1st January.

Here's the story. Ok, so during my induction [2nd December], we had to fill out Christmas time availabilities right? So I told the lady that I was on holidays from the 17th to January 1st. She was like "Well we hire people who can work Christmas time so I don't know why you bothered getting a job" And I was thinking "how rude".

Yesterday, a friend asked "how will we know if our holidays have gone through?" The lady replied "No one is getting holidays". Which makes me think that I won't get to go on holidays (which I am whether they say so or not).

I didn't realise the transfer was going to take so long to go through (I put it in, in August, heard from them a couple days before the induction) because if it was earlier I could've told them much in advance, but I didn't think it was going through this year.

I don't know what they've done with the availabilities I put in, I will have to see on Wednesday. My mum keeps assuming that they will either not give me any work or that they will try to fire me for the above. (I keep telling my mum not to assume)

Am I in the wrong or are they? (If they don't let me have holidays?)

Well what she said was true, they're hiring for Christmas staff and you can't work Christmas? I would have spoken to you in the exact same way she did.

I assume you aren't contracted, but if you are, you can get fired if you don't turn up for 3 consecutive contracted shifts as this is classed as 'abandoment of work'

But someone like Townie would probably be better answering your question. If you aren't contracted I don't think they can fire you for not working for the dates specified.

I'm a casual Recovery staff. I wasn't getting transfered so I could work Christmas time. It was so I could do the job during the whole of next year as an after school job.

So you couldn't have transferred after Christmas? You say your application took forever but the only reason they probably processed it now was to get you in there ready for Xmas.

Well, I was waiting for a transfer for months so I wasn't going to pass up an opportunity. She just called me and asked if I was still interested in transfering and that was that. I didn't realise she was going to act like she did. Besides, I'm not even in the system yet.

Am I in the wrong....?

At induction if they didn't want to hire you after you told them they should have said well no thanks, keep your job at Woolies, but they didn't so it's their fault.

Yes but that's their problem not hers. They should have made sure he was available at Xmas before taking her on.

Yay! Got my s/s login working! Turns out it wasn't attached to my checkout bank (roll eyes).
Also getting contracted to do self serve shifts also, joy.

I was basically managing the front end tonight for a while. Only myself and another newish cashier was on. She was all the way up on the end register. I was in charge of express, self serve, service desk/smokes, other registers, phone.. heh least it wasn't busy. The supervisor and self serve lady were both on breaks so, thats what happens I suppose.
