This may have been asked before (sorry if it has), but my sister works at Coles and says that from 6PM Christmas Eve pay is considered as if it's a public holiday in terms of pay. Does anything like this apply for Woolworths for tommorow? Thanks for the help.
I don't think so, I can't find anything in our award that says that. (I've uploaded the Coles award here)

It's interesting the different rules for smokes across states/stores. at my coles, it's only >18s and only from the registers connected to the service desk

omg my shift tomorrow got extended: now working 8.00 - 18.30. on checkouts.... the entire day... i. am. going. to. die!
in other news, absolutely packed today!! but we had soo many staff so it was ok. and omg the coles in our shopping centre got evacuated (fire brigade and everything) about 3.30pm ish... due to smoke. hahaha ive heard two rumours why: someone chucked a smoke bomb and burnt deli chickens. not sure the actual reason. THANK GOD the whole centre didnt get evacuated though cause we were soo packed at that time.

Right thanks, cause i was just looking at the copy of the WA agreement i have at home (the 2005 one - expired july 2008) and it says that:

"All employees working more than 10 hours on any day shall be entitled to two meal breaks of between 45minutes and 1 hour plus two 10 minute paid tea breaks. Provided that the an employee and the company may agree that the meal break shall not be less than 30 minutes duration."

So should I be getting 2x 1 hour lunches????, cause that seems pretty awesome to me :p

Liquor, however, is having the opposite problem. When their manager quit, he originally agreed to work until new year, then leave. But he didn't last that long, and he walked out mid-last week. Their 2IC has taken over as manager no problem, but they've also had two full timers quit in the last two weeks. So basically, they're fucked. My SSM admitted yesterday that he spent Saturday trying to find an RSA course in the city for me to do on Monday (through a private provider), but that didn't pan out well.

As I think Mat already said, Sundays are paid (for casuals) as 1.7 x the full time rate. Public Holidays are 2.7 times.

In WA, both Saturday and Monday are public holidays, Sunday is paid at normal sunday rates. Its just like the easter holiday, sat and mon are public holidays, while the sunday is sunday rates only.
Actually when my supervisor told me it was 2.5x, I took it to mean 2.5x my pay rate but apparently, it's 2.5x the standard pay rate, whatever that is? Another supervisor told me just now that on Sundays, it's standard pay rate multiplied by 20% and then by 2.5. I nodded my head but my mind was HUH???!!! Can someone explain this please?

yep, thats the "flex up" payment. There'll be info about flex u instore, basically when an employee takes up extra hours they get paid at their standard part time rate, not the casual rate as it used to be (and SHOULD BE!). Tho it does contribute towards annual/sick leave.

the casual rate is 20% higher than the part time rate, so that'll explain the 20%.

I was doing a bit of perishables work today and before I got an express alert, the fridge was filled with Bulla Thickened Cream. When I returned 15 minutes later, there wasn't any left. Also at times I felt like I was playing cricket because of the number times I had to run from on side of the store to the other and back. Kinda glad it's flat out. It makes every little petty thing and the usual political in fighting go out the window. For checkout ops, scan as fast as you can and for those stacking fridges and shelves, forget taking a rough estimate of what may be needed. Just get it out. Not to mention of the fringe benifets like working elsewhere.

Gonna be fun on boxing day, cause my store is stingy I get 4 hours instead of my usual 9 hours on meat department.
we have 3 loads coming in, to last 3 days each... so, Big loads. instead of the usual 1 or 2 days worth loads. good god. I decided I'm going to do overs cages at the start, and just do Non-Local search reports and get everything I can out. I also have to do markdowns! Goodbye any chance of a tea break!

what's the rule/policy with the ID check for selling a mobile phone or sim card?

Do we have to fill out the AMTA form and do it on the computer or POS?

Or can we just do it on the computer/POS without the form?

Or just the form?

It seems stupid to do both... the info is getting sent to the same people.

But you're not working over 10 hours. 8.00-18.30 is 9.5 hours plus 1 hour meal break. That's funny that WA would allow greater than 10 hour shift, the maximum shift is 10 hours in QLD. If you work more than 10 hours you get overtime rates - and you need a 10 hour break between shifts or else the second shift is paid at overtime rates until you are released for a 10 hour break.


I hate our CSM, she fucking gave us NO staff tonight.. should have had all lanes open until at least 9pm but noooooo, we got jipped. I was supposed to the acceptor pickup, normal pickups, SCO change order, and count a SCO tonight... but I spent about 3 hours of my 5 hour shift on a checkout.... great.

That was like us. After 6, our SSM, STM, and both supervisors did not leave the express lanes except to get smokeshop or bells. Nothing got done at all. Our SSM rang the CSM and was like, you're coming in two hours early tomorrow, coz we aren't staying past 10 (all of us were supposed to leave at 9.15).

At the busiest point tonight, we had 8 mains and 6 express open. Yesterday I had exactly half that - why do my sup. shifts end up being the experimental ones.

The rules for the NDU (Union over here) is that no person, salaried or waged can be rostered or forced to work for more than 10 hours unless it is by the employee's choice.

Just did 2pm-2am. Had to finish otherwise it exceeds the 11 hrs sans breaks (which is the case in NSW). And our nightfill is nowhere near finishing, they will be there until at least 4am. Our first truck didn't arrive until 9.30pm (load is generally in by 6pm) and we had 60 odd pallets. Never a good combo.

Store itself made $379k yesterday, target was $330k so management will be pleased. Our target for today is $450k and I would be surprised if we didn't exceed $500k. Packed as always. CSM was a bitch though and didn't roster nearly enough checkouts staff so perishables/grocery were express alerted non-stop from 4pm-close at midnight. Why she didn't roster staff is beyond me, SM has said that wages aren't an issue this week. Perishables and groceries DM's were furious.
