i agree that to criticise UWS because of its location is pretty stupid, has anyone been snobby enough to actually do that in this thread?

but you have to ask yourself the question, and be honest, if you had gotten 95+ would you have still gone to UWS?
Who cares what UAI you get as long as you get into the course that you want?

A lot of people ask why UWS? I say, why not?

I used to travel an hour to get to UNSW and now I travel 20mins to get to UWS. There are a lot of factors that come into peoples' decision to choose a university and a course; UAI and the reputation of the university are just a few of those things.

Hell, if people think UWS 'sucks', then they can attend their 'prestigious' universities for all I care, because we don't bloody want them.

points 1 and 4 are valid there, and that's all you need really :)

I went to macq partly because it's 20mins from home too

I dont usually post very often but i happend to cum across this thread and it really got me worked up. Im in yr 12 and not at uni yet but i am very much open to going to ANY uni that is willing to accept me. Basically a uni is a uni and people who think that some uni's are better than others due to the social stigma attached to them should, to put it nicely, 'get off their high horses' and worry about the more important things in life such as being grateful that you are gifted enough or have the mental capacity to go to uni and better still that you have legs that allow you to walk around freely in a uni. Take some time to think about what really matters rather than trying to demoralize people on no justified grounds whatsoever. I am also proud to say that i have several cousins who have graduated from various uni's....one is now an accountant who works for a very large accounting firm in the city (graduate of UWS PARRAMATTA CAMPUS), another is a social worker (graduate of SYDNEY UNI) and another is a teacher (graduate of UNSW). Success is not based on status but rather hard work where your input is finally rewarded with corresponding output. I'll now put forward this scenario....say you are a year 12 student. you've been studying non-stop all year and unfortunately when the HSC exams finally come luck just doesnt seem to be on your side and you don't do as well as anticipated and so ur uai isnt high enough to get you into a uni such as Syd (for instance, B. Psych = uai 96) but you worked sooooooo hard all year, hardcore study, sleepless nights, early morinings, no social life etc. Would you not thank your lucky stars that a uni such as UWS is willing to accept you due to a lower uai cut-off (for instance, psych = uai 89.75). As the saying goes don't bag it out unless you've tried it. sorry about the rant but HAD TO get it off my chest :) and in future i strongly recommend that any more threads of this kind which aim to criticise uni's or their students should be ignored.

Hilarious! (note that it was a quote)

I did try and let you have something, pay you a compliment, in my last post

However you seem to be thick enough to have completely missed the point.

Good luck to you.

Seriously, get over it. You don't go to UWS and know nothing about it. If anyone is stupid and pathetic, it's the people bothering to come in here and write off the uni.

Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity and unfortunately, *Melbournian*, you happen to fit into that category quite well. Well Done!! As for the remaining dignified people who do actually attend UWS its a lost cause to try and converse with such people. I actually feel quite sorry for them because they try to undermine people in an aim to conceal their own faults and insecurities. They will deny it but i guess that is human nature and be certain that you will soon have replies demonstrating this denial and more immature posts. For the record, I don't go to UWS or any other UNI for that matter since im in year 12 (thus this is purely objective and im not for or against any UNI) and I'm just correcting a wrong with a right :).....i truly expected a greater level of maturity and diligence from Uni students.

IMO, UWS in the best.
True some teachers and tutors will bore you out, like in HS but it could also depends on the subject, i.e. sum subs just suck like managing people at work (dont try it unless you want to be in human resources)
Most lecturers are subject to performance tests, as we have been made to fill out their forms at the end of last semester so they are more "friendly" or they'll get fried.
The environment is great, my tutors works at USYD and he likes UWS for its relaxed, and nicer environment but prefers USYD because they pay him more lol.
The only thing i hate is it takes me 3hrs total fro travel everyday to and from uni and the weather at Penrith, so i m am gonna transfer to parra or campbelltown to reduce the time fro travel.
To the other question that if i had a uai of 95+ would i have went to another uni: i wouldnt know because i havent been to another uni to see what its like. open days are nice but they are supposed to put on a big show. Rumours you hear like uws sucks and uts is a business that dont care for ya and usyd chairs suck all come about because of people who have had bad experiences. if i knew what it was really like for each uni then i could make a more informed decisison. The only ups i like about usyd and unsw is that they have some good sports clubs.

hi...

Heres a note. Quit it. Discussing UWS and its supposed inadequacies are one thing... whats occuring in the thread now is entirely another.

I don't care what uni you go to, or who you know. Every uni, regardless of name, rank or otherwise defining attribute is still a uni none the less and offers to its students the best education they can. Usyd, UTS, UWS, UoW or otherwise are all equal and all have subjects in which they excel. Prestige or location count for nothing if you don't have the students, and none of the unis seem to have THAT particular problem. Why not get over your own inadequacies and debate on more important issues affecting not only UWS but ALL uni's...

Think of the bigger picture rather than your own limited perspective on an issue which is based on unrealistic stereotypes and worthless gossip.
Any education is better than no education.
