up to 76 now.
1000+ dead in the Gaza thing. But cha didn't care about that, did ja? Cunt.

Yes bad news all around. If it's arson then it deserves like, murder sentences or summat, but if it was negligence (cigarette butts) then eh.

It's illegal to improperly dispose of cigarette butts. If someone did that accidently, then they're just as culpable.

Negligent homicide.

It's illegal to dispose of cigarette butts on the side of the road and people should know better during total fire bans, or at any time.

Including the man who was the face of the reports of the Ash Wednesday fires 26 years ago this week, Brian Naylor. You will probably here a bit about him over the next day or so but he was one of Australia's best newsreaders in the 1970s and 1980s.

Re: At least 14 dead in Victoria bushfires

Is this officially Australia's worst bushfire based on fatalities?

Sure is. I think it may be the most deady natural disaster too - Cyclone Tracy claimed "only" 71.

L&OB? I don't think so, this is a reasonably significant natural disaster.

Shouldn't this be in L&OB? 84-1 KD ratio is pretty impressive.
Um. Worst natural disaster in Australia's history is "light and offbeat" in the same way that Cyclone Tracy was. :spzz:

Re: At least 14 dead in Victoria bushfires

Actually we have - the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983 saw 47 die in Victoria and another 28 in South Australia - 75 in total in a day. They too followed years of drought.

There were also the Black Friday bushfires of 1939 when 71 people died in Victoria.

As horrible as these fires are they are not yet as devastating as these earlier fires (partly because as a result of the losses in those earlier fires lessons have been learnt about prevention as well as better fire fighting equipment.)

Sorry but I am somewhat older than you and do remember the 1983 fires (but not the 1939 ones).

Jump to conclusions often?

Edit: Revised up to 108

Narrandera is full of smoke, apparently it is from kingslake, being blown up by southerly change.

Nah there have been a few other cyclones etc over the years that have killed 100+ people.

Some of the comments on new.com and that are fucking sick.

I dont think people realise how fast this happened.
