I use linux as an operating system.
No need for a antivirual system or basically an extra firewall... nothing is targeted at linux operating systems (yet they're so vulnerable).
On my windows PC... I like the new Norton 2009 and I will always be a fan of Avast!

+1. I use my own Unix install based on the Darwin kernel. Compared to Windows, it is insanely secure.

Kaspersky or BitDefender are probably the best two with virus definitions updated by every 30-60mins they both have the best protection with little impact on system resources. Kaspersky has a whole team of russian whitehats 24/7 typing lightning fast, to keep on the ball with virus definitions. The only problem is that as of 2009 you can no longer activate the software using at .KEY file which is a pain in the ass. I have NOD32 on my comp which is very good and on my laptop I have AVG Free which is decent. Do not use McAfee or Norton they suck your CPU and system memory dry.
My top recommendations would be either BitDefender (has gaming mode for minimal system resource usage while your gaming and not as prone to viruses compared to when you are surfing the web) or Kaspersky (russian whitehats are the best also it has web mail protection). NOD32, Webroot and AVG should also do fine.
Also if your not already using Mozilla Firefox, why? Why not?

Didn't think it would. I have a friend who did that with his computer (it didn't help that one or two of the programs he had weren't all that good to begin with), and it got to the point that when a virus did get in, the different programs ended up targeting each other as the source of the infection.
Needless to say he got rid of them all and turned to a single, more reliable program.
The reason I asked the question was because I didn't know if this was just a one-off occurence, or a damn good reason to have 1 antivirus program and leave it at that.

..but on my PC, I used Avast (awesome), then switched to NOD32 as it was less naggy, and then finally to Kaspersky. All are highly recommentded.

I hear a lot of people say Norton/Symantec is crap etc.
but I've been using Norton Internet Security 2009 for a while now and its been great.
Its supposedly "engineered for speed", ie smaller program than previous years. I haven't experienced the insane CPU usage as with the older models so I'd say its pretty effective program.
+ I got Norton Utilities for free with it.

I currently use Avira Anti Virus and its bloody great! I switched from AVG as AVG wasn't picking up any virus what so ever, and when it did it targeted my itunes and wouldn't allow me to use it. It was a bug and so I got rid of it.
