Just finished my half yearly's and i'm pretty keen to drop down to 10 units to free up a bit of time for my other subjects. Anyway my options are between dropping either Economics and General Maths. My assesment mark and rank so far are as follows

Economics = 75% - 3/21
Gen Maths = 82% - 34/280
School Rank = 300

Economics takes so much more time in comparison to general maths and i'm confident i can get into the top 10 of maths given i came 1st in the first test but bombed out and came 64th in the half yearly.

Which would you recommend as the best option to drop?
Thanks

I'd say drop Eco. By observing all the other kids in my grade who are doing it they're definitely struggling and finding it more and more time consuming.

But that's your school.

OP, I think you've already decided for yourself to drop Eco and keep General, as much as I would prefer you to keep Eco since it's a very rewarding subject.

Unless you're either in love with maths/really hate eco, i would have to say keep economics. Your rank is much higher and i believe it'll contribute more to your ATAR.

But, if you do have a strong love for maths then stick with maths.

Unless you are positive you can get a top rank in general, I'd say keep economics.

An average mark in economics does more for you than an average mark in general.
+ you appear to be doing well in economics anyway.

From my personal point of view, I think economics would be a good subject to keep. But ask yourself this: Do I really HAVE to drop a subject?

Ten units seems appealing - Yes you have 2 less units which means more time to spend on other subjects but keeping both i think would be most beneficial. See how you go after the trails and make a final decision.

Your ranks must be pretty good since you're considering to drop subjects in which you're ranking 3/21 & 34/280. That leads me to believe you are competent to keep going at your present pace.

Well my other ranks so far are as follows:
English Adv 6/188
Legal 2/38
Business 1/58
and SOR II 3/300 or so.

So i guess those two are my best option to drop either one but i might wait till trials now due to eveyones advice. Thanks everyone :)

Edit: i was just looking at topscores and 24 people got band 6 in gen maths last year and only 1 in eco so starting to sway towards dropping eco now....

12 units all the way cuz. 2 units of back-up if you fuck an exam by some act of the giant flying spaghetti monster.
300+ in SORII? WTF?!
1. You have over 300 people in your year?
2. Why would so many cunts do SORII?!
The only reason I do it is because I can't deal with uneven numbers, and in year 11 it didn't bother me because in my mind I was already doing MX2 so I had 14.

@OP, you should check out an atar calculator, an aligned mark of 85 for economics is roughly the same as 90 in general maths.

I'd rather get a high band 5 for economics than a band 6 in general

But seeing as you seem to want to do general, do general. Enjoy counting boxes to find the gradient/slope of lines :)

WTF?!
There's like 110-125 in my year and only 14-16 of them do SOR2
About 60 do Catho.
Does your school enforce having 12 units in year 11?

Yeah, I assumed that. At the St Pat's they run like two SOR2 classes in year 11 because they force them to do 12 units.
Why the fuck would they do that? What if some kid is incredibly smart and wants to do 13-14 in year 11. It's fucked.
