question then through observations: why are so many people left orientated
I'm not 100% sure. It could be because many more young people believe that the elected Government should be 'socially responsible' and that employees, under-represented groups, Indigenous Australians etc should have more rights; rather than the Government supporting employers and businesses, encouraging the free market concept and the adoption of generally more conservative views. That's just a stab though. Young people are generally more inclined to feel strongly about the rights of others, the protection of the environment etc, but once they're in the workforce fulltime or own their own businesses this may change.

Apparently young people will also vote for the same party as their favourite parent.

It's a difference in opinion of either what's fair for everyone OR what will benefit the individual more (financially or otherwise).

its funny that so many people are getting left-orientated views when all the democractically elected governements in the western world would easily score on the right for every issue. If you were to do the republicans in the USA they would score almost far right on economic policy and right on all the other issues. The liberal party have had 4 terms in power with strong 'correct' right wing based views

Well I find it funny that the Liberal party are not liberal at all, but conservative. It's similar to Americans, in that their Republican party is not republic...
And no, communism doesn't really work.

Or he would be smart about it and change the legislation for electoral roll cut offs so that approximatley 80,000 probable young labor voters would miss out on voting.
