just to try to justify why HSC english is compulsory... the way i heard it, a massive number of the people who graduate from technical courses have english as a secondary language (ie brainy asians). BoS is trying to raise the standard so that the technically qualified people can communicate...

yeah. i hope it is only 2 proscribed texts, because if i had to talk about all 3 texts in depth (i think they want indepth analysis of all the texts you use, basically) it limits how far i can go with my own sources.

x ray and interference stuff - that is basically in the question about the Braggs and X-ray crystallography. i have never seen a q where you had to show the calculations (if we get one i am writing it off, because there are too many formulas to remember already); it has always been b/s history...

Yeah... i originally despised SFOC, but it is good now. and i love RIH. BS is a decent source, but i think it has strange bedfellows, because it is so clearly classifiable in genre; it can be restrictive to talk about it in some q's because of that, whereas SFOC and RIH have other focuses u can...

I'm just curious who is actually planning on using The Big Sleep in the exam. I do BS, RIH and SFOC, and BS feels much harder to adapt to questions that aren't just straight out convention/value q's. my teacher agreed with me that as a text it is not as flexible for the HSC... does anyone plan...

i am just making reference sheets for the parts of courses i have trouble with, and working off that. when i feel confident about the whole course, i do a trial or set of essays/creative tasks. then i focus on the bits that i did badly in that. personally i think it is too late to go about...

Chudymaster, you miss the point that your cohort does not benefit. As Dario mentioned, the changes come into place for the 2003 prelim and 2004 hsc. i seem to recall that you said you were in yr 11 (y 12 now i guess)... and if thats the case u don't benefit :grinshak: but u said that...

hehe cats in the cradle i have read so many essays that use that song erm there is a lot of songs to choose from - david bowie, creed, eminem etc basically if you went through your collection (or even parents collection) youre bound to find a song that you can use

it was a tough life, obviously.

I think they cut the syl. down because there was just too much material to cover in the time we have. so i dont think the standard of questions is going to alter much... they'll just be less that they can ask about. hmm but then again theyre cutting out bits from everywhere... so they wont be...

I got last years HSC one (though i guess u probably got that): Imagine you are an external investigator inquiring into the circumstances and revelations of a crime case in ONE of the prescribed texts. In your answer, clearly identify which case you are investigating. Write in script form...

i dont know about the other ones, but John Pilger is an excellent source for information about world powers and (some) statistics. im using a pilger article concerning Blair's actual achievements since he gained power, and how he uses the media to put forward the sterling reputation he has...
