    2009 SRC Elections

both ace and hatter hate vox, apparently. as do i (well, not hate, but dislike). mainly because they've plastered the whole uni with completely unfunny 'joke' headlines.

    The Official NRL Thread

i don't see how 'planning the matches better' could avoid that. the 3rd week of finals always overlaps with the AFL GF, and if the storm have a home final that weekend then that's the way the cookie crumbles. (it couldn't be played on the friday night because etihad stadium, which is the only...

    Out of curiousity..[gap years]

Re: Out of curiousity.. best piece of advice i've ever heard on this topic is this: only take a gap year if you have a strong plan for what to do with it. if you've got a plan to save up and then travel the world, go for it. if you're just going to hang around at home and goof off, don't bother...

    2009 SRC Elections

patrick massarani's candidate statement on the senate voting website: "A strong voice of change and hope. A voice for one – a voice for all. For all undergraduate students, college students, international students and mature age students. A bright young voice for one and all." ...okay then

    Semester 2 Chatter Thread (2009)

my history lecturer sent an email around this afternoon saying the strike is still going ahead. the NTEU also has an infosheet about it: http://www.nteu.org.au/bd/sydney/cb/faqs

    Loneliness of the university Liberal

"One of my lecturers even had the nerve to claim that Anzac Day is a celebration of war and touted it as a strange tradition." The nerve of him! Universities are for reinforcing comfortable orthodoxies, not questioning them!

    2009 SRC Elections

this isn't technically an SRC election, but does anyone know about the political affiliations of the senate candidates? they all say that they're 'independent' but half the time that's code for 'i'm a factional hack but i don't want you to know about it'.

    Semester 2 Chatter Thread (2009)

judging by the posters up everywhere saying there's an academic and general staff strike happening on wednesday, i'd say there's an actual strike on. (although that's not to say it won't be cancelled at the last minute like the last one was.)

    2009 SRC Elections

i love how every year they have millions of candidates for the SRC council because it entails no actual effort or responsibility, whereas because SRC president actually requires work, they've got a field of two candidates, only one of whom is serious.

    New super duper student card

so is this some sort of partnership with a bank where the uni gets given huge amounts of money for forcibly signing up its entire student base?

    help with hecs/govt assistance

as i understand it, you're eligible for HECS, but not for HELP. in other words, you'll pay the subsidised fee levels (rather than the higher ones which are charged to international students), but you won't be able to defer the payments - you'll have to pay upfront.

    Want your opinion :)

    1) there is a coursework component which has exams, in addition to the research project. so it's not like E2 where you just do the major work and that's it. the research project forms a fairly big slice of the assessment load, though. 2) back when i did the HSC there were several people who did...

    CSSA Ancient History Trials

there's no necessity for direct quotes in exams. markers don't expect it because they're perfectly aware that being able to recite a text verbatim doesn't actually demonstrate any understanding. paraphrasing is fine.

so what was the point of the whole massive JFR plaza opening ceremony if they still haven't managed to get any shops open?

    >1 course with same course code?

not really. there aren't a huge number of offers given out for combined law, so even if 90% of people chose, say, commerce/law, there still wouldn't be enough students for it to be a problem for the commerce faculty. the faculties are quite flexible about how many students they can accept so...

    What is considered too early?

you shouldn't have any problems tbh. 'racism' in australia is hyped up a fair bit by the international media but it's not that really that big an issue. as for your accent, i can't see it causing any problems - any residual dislike of americans is probably more to do with behaviour than accent...

wow, the prospectus is actually quite professional now. i remember when i enrolled it was full of shitty annoying photos of the student ambassadors:
