    2002 q4 (a) (i) and (ii)

It's binomial probability. She hits the target 2/3 times and takes 10 shots, so the binomial expansion is ((2/3) + (1/3))10 (i) P(she hits target exactly 9 times) = 10C9 (2/3)9(1/3) (ii) P(she hits the target less than 9 times) = 1 - P(she hits the target 9 times or...

How do you think you'll go?

Remember that the people that will top the state are most likely on this forum. Also, the fact that there is a lot more canditure means that (assuming pretty much everyone who is capable of doing 4-unit would have done it anyway) a lot of people not really capable of doing it would have...

The 2004 HSC - Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Lol... I'm hoping it's a _LOT_ less than the majority that get raw of 90+ I came first in 4-unit at my school, where a whopping 3 people do it, and I suspect I only got about 80 raw. There was a time when considered myself to be good at maths ;)

    90 / 120 - please align

If this helps at all, someone at my school last year told me they -thought- they got 72/120, and ended up getting an aligned mark of 84, mid-high E3.

The 2004 HSC - Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

The first question in mechanics, someone with a basic knowledge of equal and opposite forces and year 9 trigonometry could have got it.

Is it just me or was that mechanics ridiculously easy?

easiest in 5 yrs... then 5 more

Why are you hoping for 59/120? So you can build yourself up and think you will get >50% and finally realise that you didn't? You should be aiming for 60 ;)

The 2004 HSC - Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

I didn't study for 4-unit. Won't be studying for 3-unit. Meh... I better learn that time payment stuff, I was away when we covered it and never caught up.

The 2004 HSC - Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

I said that for the two rooms not to be empty, take 2 students and place 1 in each. There are n(n-1) ways of randomly selecting 2 students and 2! ways of putting them into the 2 rooms so neither is empty. There are (n-2) students left, and they can choose any room since none is empty. The...

Anyone care to estimate the state average, based on the previous state averages of past papers?

The 2004 HSC - Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

I looked at the induction question with about 30 seconds left (thought I'd come back to it cos it would be too much writing), then quickly proved true for n = 1 to try and scab a mark :)

need to know how to prove circle geometry proofs?

Probably not. None are really hard to do though, if you know your circle geometry then you should be able to derive any of the basic theorems that we use.

    Circle Geometry and probability help

ALGEBRAIC A,A,E,I,L,G,B,R,C The fact that there are specific positions for the vowels means nothing. It just means that there are 4 places for vowels to be. there are 4*3*2*1 ways the vowels can be set out, and 5*4*3*2*1 ways the remaining letters can be put out. There are also 2 A's...

Who's pursuing Business as a career

If you want the moneys do B Commerce, major in Actuarial studies. Good course (so I have heard) but parts get extremely tedious and difficult. Also, it's hard to maintain the credit average that you need just to pass the course.
