    Really shit at Prob/perms/combs

Hey shadowdude, I went to the seminar as well and it was great. One of the questions in the book, I think the one about how could a group of people be arranged in 3 rooms, might have been incorrect. In the coroneos past paper book the question is done differently and has another answer.... I...

    Permutations

Part 1: So consider the three vowels as a unit, because they have to be next to each other. They can be arranged in 3! ways. Part 2: Now there are seven letters in total, but when we consider the vowels as a single unit we could say that there are 5 units, the three vowels and each of the four...

    e^f(x) graph

Not exactly. The Left hand side is easy, the zeros of f(x) get the y value of one. Concavity stays the same. The asymptote is infinity from the left and is an open circle at zero from the right. We observe that f(x) approaches to 1 as x approaches to infinity. So e^f(x) approaches e^1, or e.

    HSC 2012 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: 2012 HSC MX2 Marathon Second part is done with Newton's method for x=k to find the approximation. I'm having trouble with the first part, possibly because I'm not sure about whether the next root is between k=1 and 1, greater than k, or less than zero.

    Quick questions.

But the limit is a limit, or the value as it approaches zero. It is technically undefined and similar to how \frac{a}{a}=1 but if a=0 we can see that the expression is undefined.

    State Rank Possibilities?

You should be first in three unit to get a state rank, its unlikely. Get 100%, no errors, don't make a mistake etc and maybe you will get one.... MAYBE.

    Fuckery in my trials

Yeah, not much you can do. It isn't fair on the other kids to keep it in the paper as they are doing a maths test not a general IQ quiz or whatever. They did the right thing.

    simple math graphing y=x^2

It is always a good idea to label your x and y axis intercepts if you know them or can figure them out, in the case when they are the same do as Carrot said as you can never go wrong with extra points. Something like (-1,1) (0,0) and (1,1) would be fine.
