what is so bad about UWS?

Fixed. Allways is portrayed as the university degree for real men at WA uni open days - I think the presenters might intentially dirty themselves up to make it look more manly.

    Finance Postgrad - which uni?

Heres a blog for you to have a look at How to get a Job in Quantitative Finance It is written by a Quant Headhunter who gives quite good advice - here is the post you should read How to get a Job in Quantitative Finance: Ranking Finance Courses Unless you get someone who would rather hire...

    Question time...

Some employeers don't like the idea of people who have done masters without any work experience - I'd go for the masters though.

Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

It really is a quantitative role as opposed to a management role - I can't recall the source of where it says it isn't a way to get up into the corprate ladder though it might have been in an investment banking career guide, an actuary job guide, Wilmott forums or Mark Joshi's forums. If you...

what should I do? science->med or economics?

    1. Economics is a shit undergraduate degree 2. Economics with an econometrics orientated honours dissertion would not make you an actuary - a straight mathematics degree would be more appropriate. 3. If your strong point is mathematics and you are (hopefully) interested in medicine there is...

BSc in 2yrs instead of 3yrs

I was talking to someone from Bond University who graduated at 18/19 and he couldn't secure a graduate position because he was too young. Something to keep in mind anyway.

Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

I'd define a corprately acredited degree as one that would would get you up into middle management and beyond. It does matter - I never said that it didn't.

Equation(s) you believe have had much influence.

Haha! Reminds me of my books full of runescape mathematics - I used this equation a bit:

Actuarial Studies - right path for me?

Actuarial Sciences is NOT a good major if you want to get high up into banking. It is not a corprately accredited degree. I don't know much about actuarial syllabuses but if all you do is excel mathematics is a far better option.

B Commerce (Liberal Studies) vs. B Commerce (International Studies)

I do Commerce and Computer and Mathematical Sciences and I only go when I have meetings

    Re-enrolled after 20 years.

Generally they only give you 10 years to finish your degree

    Terry Tao public lecture

At this stage i'm doing a triple major in mathematics (pure, applied and stats) so its not all eww applied maths (bedtime reading atm is 'A first course in Pure Mathematics'.) I'm quite interested in what I'll get out of pure mathematics though - I hope its worth doing!

Equation(s) you believe have had much influence.

MVT requires a closed interval. Looking at my notes on the geometric interpretation of the MVT it says 'for some interior point the instentaneous change = average change' which wouldn't help aswell.

    Terry Tao public lecture

Looking at ANU's honours units unless you want to do pure mathematics (which USyd is quite strong at) I'd rather go to UNSW. I doubt I'll do my honours at ANU - even if I'm going to do a PhD there. UNSW appears to have quite alot more probability/statistics units.

    CA Achievers program - 2009

I'm not slamming the program at all - if they don't want me I'm not getting work experience so it doesn't bother me at all. I did alright in my first year accounting unit and I find some bits of accounting interesting however a first year maths student isn't very good at risk management.
