    Yes ()2 means two lots of whats in the brackets but you wouldn't write it like this. The correct thing is just BaCl2 (also note capitals). You use the brackets when you have more than one of something that has more than one element- for example Barium Nitrate would be Ba(NO3)2

    Re: HSC 2012 Marathon :) You can prove this identity with entirely 3U methods. I remember an extension question in Cambridge went through it (it used the upper and lower bound rectangles)- I'll try and find the question.
