Official BOS Study Meat v2.0 (Winter Edition)

Yeah same as this- I wouldn't mind if everyone that went or normal BOS members or whatever saw them but I wouldn't want a teacher to see it.

    H2so4

This is wrong. If they both ionise completely, H2SO4 will have a lower pH because it is diprotic. Yes technically you should adjust for the incomplete second ionisation but at HSC we don't. You can't however draw the link between pH and strength since one acid is monoprotic and one is diprotic...

    H2so4

Yeah, I don't exactly get what you're saying. They both ionise 100% in water so they are both equalling strong in water. If you use a different solvent however such as acetic acid, you can notice that hydrochloric is actually STRONGER than sulfuric even though it has a lower H+ concentration and...

Need help pick subjects for HSC 2013

What do you enjoy and what is your ATAR aim?
  7. deswa1

    H2so4

You're mixing strength and concentration. Strength refers to the degree of ionisation, concentration refers to how many H+'s there are. In your example, both completely ionise so even though H2SO4 has a higher concentration of H+, you can't say its stronger.

    H2so4

When you multiply by 2, it decreases the pH, making it more acidic not less. Think about it like this, you now have more h+ ions in the same space.

    Chem HSC help

Oh yes, thanks heaps to both of you. Would rep but yeah (though I think that jokes old now :)). If either of you (or anyone else) has time, can you help with two other things: - Firstly, with titration, you have to decide which indicator to use. Let's say if you titrate NaOH with HCl. The...

    Chem HSC help

Hey guys, Can you help me with these questions (from 2010 HSC)? Can you explain the answers: 7 Equal volumes of four 0.1 mol L acids were titrated with the same sodium hydroxide solution. Which one requires the greatest volume of base to change the colour of the indicator? (A) Citric...

    Probability Question

Yeah, that's what I'd recommend. I always try solving these questions intuitively rather than with a formula otherwise I stuff them up

    Probability Question

I do it differently to you. This is my working though: Call the women B1,B2,B3,S1,S2,W1,W2,W3 (where B means Bow, S means stroke and W means woman) - B1 can take one of four spots on the bow side, B2 can then take 3 and B2 can take 2. Therefore total combinations so far is 4x3x2 - S1 can take...

    Looking for solutions

No! You won't be able to access the top marks by just doing this. You need to have a more holistic understanding of your texts because what happens if they throw a curveball question at you (look at Mod B in the HSC 2011 as an example). Given that you are good at the sciency/maths subjects, I...

    Looking for solutions

Tbh, don't spend so much time on MX2. You seem to be decent at it so focus much more on your other subs (especially english). The value added to your ATAR by going from 93 to 96 in 4U is quite small.

So 71.5 is the mark to beat lol. The test looks really solid though- will attempt tomorrow or Wed.

Wow- that looks nice. Do you happen to have a copy of the whole paper? And thanks Carrot for your solution. That's way better set out than what I did :)
