Well I could understand if it's moderately busy and you're not out the front for long, but at say 8pm on a Monday when there's hardly anyone in the store there's no way that I would stand out the front of my register for sometimes up to 10-15 minutes at a time. Question: Does anybody else's...

Nope, that sounds silly. But if there's a customer lineing up when there's a register free nearby I'll direct them to the open checkout and supervisors will usually direct people to free registers. On another note, a lady wrote a nice feedback form about me and management gave me a box of...

Well yes, the current award has pay-rises in Feb 2010 and Aug 2010 (of about 15-20c/hour) but who knows what the next award will have. And remember that on your birthday until 20/21 (i forget) your rate of pay as a junior will increase (45% <15, 50% 15-16, 55% 16-17....)

Well I know someone at my Coles who does 8hours/week at Coles and works at a Foodworks store other times. But I'm not sure if Coles would mind you working at such a direct competitor. You'd love working on Coles' checkouts, from what I've read in the Woolworths thread, Coles is a bit more...

15 y.o. casual rate @ Coles is currently $9.5807/hr ($13.5727/sunday $21.5566/pub. hol.) I guess it depends how much you'd rather checkouts as opposed to staying at Woolworths. If you would much rather be on checkouts than in the Deli then I'd take the Coles job because you know that you've...

I don't think anyone knows, it's not that big a change they're probably just doing a few stores in batches.

I guess the majority of people wouldn't be so stupid as to steal from their employer.

Do you mean for staff purchases (i.e break food)? I'm glad you guys are getting rid of it. We used to have to do that at Coles and it could take up a few minutes of your break waiting for someone to sticker your stuff.

Again, I really do wonder how someone could have such a sense of entitlement to think that you would finish serving them BEFORE you evacuated the store.

I've heard the rumors go round a few months ago about the light brown shirts after we had the bar that runs across the top of the registers (where all the lights/numbers are) being painted wth a light brown. Yes, there are new namebadges coming out with just 'coles' and no orb any more, I got...

It would be fairly obvious that a store that handles tens/hundreds of thousands of dollars every day would have some kind of safe to store excess cash.

We only have phones at Coles, one for each bay. It's annoying when it's really busy and the supervisors are stuck on express because you can't get a hold of anyone and then the customer gets shitty because they can't get what they want. Sometimes I just ring up whoever's on register 9 (which is...

That's what I meant, 16 and over, sorry if I was unclear. Re: self checkouts - there were a heap of listings in the CEL seeking self-checkout coaches, so the rollout is continuing.

The tax payable on $18000 a year is $1800 The tax payable on $17700 a year is $1755 (with your union fees deducted) The difference between the two is $45 (or 15% of $300) which represents the maxium you can receive through your tax return for your union fees.

You wouldn't get it all back unless you paid 100% tax. Deductions can only reduce your taxable income to $0 and as such you can only get back the tax you paid throughout the year. And if you earn under whatever it is to qualify for the low income tax offset then you already get all your tax back...
