    transferring programs

Depends on what the transfer is I think. Transferring into a straight BSc from a special science program shouldn't be too hard, especially if all your current courses can count. Internal transfers into science are not too hard as long as you aren't failing everything! Go and see the science...

though he's actually from Uzbekistan I think.

    Pre/Tutorial Questions

That will happen a fair bit. If you haven't done stuff in lectures you can try reading ahead a bit, but you should also tell your tutor so they don't expect you to know everything. When it comes to the class tests they make sure that they only cover stuff that you have done.

    Q math 1151

...what ever it comes under, it is definitely asking you to solve "something like sin(x) = 1/2". You are right that they are not trying to redo the stuff that you did at school. They are trying to show you that vector methods are better than doing straight trig for many problems. Most of the...

    Q math 1151

MATH1151 Q25(a) Find sin^(-1)(sqrt(3)/2) or perhaps Q30(a) Show that 2 tan^(-1) 2 = pi - cos^(-1)(3/5) (Of course if you want something more challenging you might get to 2nd year where they solve sin(z)=2 )

    Q math 1151

Not sure I entirely agree with that. You'll need to use trig functions in * calculus eg integrate sin(x)^2 cos(x)^6 (and in 2nd order d.e.'s) * complex numbers eg find sin(x) + sin(2x) + ... + sin(nx) * vector geometry eg what are the angles in the triangle with vertices at (1,2,3)...

    Q math 1151

BoF1 has it pretty right. The main problem is that it all comes pretty fast compared to high school. The calculus half has more abstract stuff than high school too. You'll need to know some formal definitions and theorems and be able to prove things with them (at least if you want to do well)...

    70 WAM. Easy or difficult?

I heard of a guy whose transcript had marks of 0,0,0,1,0,0 for a WAM of 0.167. There are lots of drop-outs with WAMS of zero, but getting a nonzero WAM less than one takes real skill.

    Math1151

Actuarial would prefer that you do 1151/1251 as it does things that you'll probably need for ACTL1001 earlier than if you were doing 1131/1231 (or the higher versions). By the end of the year 1151/1251 has covered a bit more stuff than 1131/1231 (especially in multivariable calculus) but if...

    MATH1141 - Higher Mathematics 1A - All tutorial 2 full??

If you are doing Adv Maths, the School of Maths will try to squeeze you in. If a new slot doesn't open up, visit or email the first year maths office (fy.MathsStats @ unsw....) and they'll probably override the system for you.

    Higher Maths and course troubles.

'tis true....maths was actually rather unhappy with this being forced on them.

    Higher Maths and course troubles.

Actually, the top marks in 1131 and 1231 are capped because the non-common questions for the Higher version are scaled up. Although both exams are marked out of 80, after scaling it is possible to score 85 or more on the Higher paper. It varies from year to year, but the top final mark for...
