Obviously the idea of God carries a bit more weight and significance than the idea of unicorns. If unicorn do exist, how does that change your life?.

It has nothing to do with "impact" or "significance". it's all about proof.

Can you prove the existence of god any more than you can of unicorns?

coz to me a horse that happens to have a horn attached to it's head (so essentially a mix between two OBSERVED animals, horse and rhino) sounds more likely than some infinitely complex all powerful being existing

Because people aren't ignorant tards like you. Obviously the idea of God carries a bit more weight and significance than the idea of unicorns. If unicorn do exist, how does that change your life? God has universal relevance, I'm afraid.
Depends on your point of view. For me, if a God existed, it'd be far more likely that such an entity wouldn't give a rat's arse about one little short-lived race (it is a big universe). So if a God existed, it wouldn't be particularly relevant at all, except in a "oh, that's interesting" kind of way.

And if the Christian God *did* exist?

At best I would ignore his existence (assuming he has ours), at worst I would not want anything to do with such vile scum (assuming he were actively involved in our existence).

The fact remains, though, that the Christian God and his accompanying book of stories is about as ludicrous as the existence of an invisible pink unicorn, even if one accepts the supposition of the existence of a supernatural entity!

Oh wow that is so original. Pink unicorns? That's a laugh, haven't heard that before, where do you come up with this stuff?

Same old arguments that have failed to destroy religion a thousand times before, it's not going to work this time either, sorry.

Enter invisible unicorns that sprinkle their horn-dust on unknowing humans, infusing their being with compassion, humility, sexual prowess and an aptitude for ball sports.

These unicorns change lives. Unfortunately, this ability is absolutely irrelevant to the epistemological question comparing them with gods.

How does it make sense to set different standards of knowledge which vary in usage based on the subject CHANGING LIVES(
).... or er, not changing lives and just being a graceful, yet untalented, unicorn?

And defending the concept of a god is the most original idea out...

I like how you seem to think being condescending here makes you look intellectually superior to the observer, the same one that's read you consistently spout nonsense.

And I love how atheists (or whatever you define yourselves as, following on from that debate earlier) seem to think being overbearingly arrogant and adopting a vicious mob mentality will somehow convince people of their 'cause'?

I would not want anything to do with such vile scum
Slidey, what do you want me to say? It's your choice to go to hell?

Stop drawing moot points out of context and learn to argue please or I suggest we end this debate here.

I'm sorry, but if God exists how that does that change my life? How is my life, as an atheist, fundamentally different from someone like you, who is a theist?

Although unicorns may seem trivial compared to the Biblical God, they both lack empirical evidence and therefore deserve the same lack of belief. Just because you believe God will give you eternal paradise does not mean his existence is any likelier than unicorns. And if you believe that God is more likely to exist than unicorns, you are just revealing your own personal desire for God to be real (rather than an objective perspective on God's existence).

i think abbott's idea would be fair if the bible was introduced as a text to study critically. he suggests familiarity with great texts which is fantastic. so introduce it alongside crime & punishment and don quixote. unfortunately i doubt thats what abbott was suggesting; he's a bible bashing imbecile.
I grudgingly +1 this because while I oppose the bible in every way, this is also an acceptable idea.
