Do the employers look at your grades from the first year or is it the final year that really counts ??
This exactly. It's important because lots of jobs require you to enter your WAM/GPA for the application and if you don't make the certain cut off the company wants, then you could immediately be rejected.
Of course, it's better to do better in your final years than first year, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't care about your first year grades.
What degree do you want to do? and what sorts of jobs are you looking for? Usually, for most degrees, Distinction is a suitable grade that will make you more competitive. But if you're intending to do Engineering and other very difficult courses, perhaps pass is enough (provided that you have practical experience)I'm just worried that if I don't get all HDs, I will not get a proper job.
What is the 'standard' grade that you should get ?? I'm not just talking about passing. Distinction at least ?
It depends on a variety of factors, like the degree you do, etc. With a degree like dentistry, medicine or optometry, marks would probably not matters as much as they would for say business or law.I'm just worried that if I don't get all HDs, I will not get a proper job.

You will have to ring around and start networking with professionals. Career events which faculties hold are a good place to start. How do I get a work experience?? I was thinking of getting a job but it would be nice if I could do a work experience.
And I am doing flexible first year; and will be moving to Civil/Renewable/PV area. Perhaps petroleum or mining if they interest me (since the pay is great)
You'd usually get internships in 2nd or 3rd year.Am I able to get a cadetship or internship on the first year ?
If you look at the unemployment rate over the past decade, the current rate is roughly average comparing the peaks within this period. It was worse in the early 2000s compared to now. Please cite your source so I can have a look.By the way getting work experience in the next year or two may prove difficult with so many people out of work.
There was a report recently that 100,000 will lose their jobs in the new year.
