No. There's slight variances between the different years, markets and models, but I think a lot of the 90s WRXs had 5 speeds (notorious for breaking with tuned cars) while the STI had a 6 speed and then a lot of differences with the engine - turbo, internals and I think even the block. Then ofcourse brakes, suspension, the visual stuff etc.

i heard that the engine is the same though and subaru needed to distinguish between the two and didn't want a wrx to beat an sti so they gave it a detune

That's not true.

There's actually different components used and the setup can be different.

Even injection sequence is different between the two. That's pretty vital, but it makes sense given different engine block.

Also the only way to "de-tune" without giving engine issues is to actually change parts, unless you are running super rich, super lean after a "de-tune", which would still cause problems as well.

Although tedious to get perfect, tuning a fuel and ignition map takes a lot of time and usually there is only one "range" of similar ideal maps for each engine and how it is to be run/used.

Woah, just saw a gallardo, 3 or 4 maserati 3200 and gransports + a gran turismo, an aventador, a 458, 360 and late model 911 one after another near UTS.
