Does anyone regret attending the school that they attended? (1 Viewer)

I had so many schools to pick from it wasn't funny... i got into Ruse but was too far so i would have had to move or travel for a long distance every day. Then my parents had signed me up to a bunch of schools since i was a baby like PLC, MLC, SCEGGS and OLMC but they were still a bit far (except OLMC but i hated their uniform).

So i just went to my local high school which has quite a good rep anyway. Love my friends and taechers - I don't regret going to my school at all.

Distance often acts as a hindrance, as per my own situation.

But good on you for making that tough decision! It must have been hard. And I'm glad that you've really "found your place" (haha belonging) in your school.

It's rather depressing to know that I'm one of the very few who aren't content with the school they went to. The notion that 'you only get out what you put in' certainly does apply,however, when I look at my school, the opportunities were so limited that everybody had to follow a mainstream path.

I'm always questioning whether I would've performed better at an independent school...

I don't greatly regret attending a 196th ranked school, but socialising with the more "academically able" friends and competing with them would've potentially boosted my ATAR higher. Some of my friends won't be even making it to University. It's not really a bad thing, but we won't be frequently visiting each other 'as much' (different paths). But hey, if you look back at your school and smile with nostalgia, then there should be no regrets .

whilst i loved the prestige and social aspects of my school; i thought about giving it up for a school with a lower rank, but with a wider choice of subjects and less restrictions and competition for these subjects. i ended up being stuck in a subject in which i had been consistently performing poorly in, even with a great amount of effort - and now it'll drag me down a lot. there probably would be a long list of people who'd kill to be at my school though, so perhaps i shouldn't be complaining.

which OLMC? theres one in the sutho shire but i HIGHLY doubt that has a good rep.

Yes, I seriously dislike my school. I know I could had gotten into a selective school but didnt choose to go considering the school that I went to was literally across the road from me. I also didnt know I could change schools until in Year 10 on the last day that the selective schools application was due. I remember wanting to go to apply for nsb, baulkham and maybe normanhurst... but I had to give my application in person to the school.. ...fail

Yeah I didn't like my school one bit when it came to the social scene but because our year was so small (40 students) it gave us better chances to have one on one talks with the teachers to get a better understanding of a certain topic which helped a lot in assessments/exams

The public school in our area is the school to go to if you're looking for an awesome social life but the teachers only really care for the exceptionally good academic students

I honestly believe I went to the best school in my area... Be that as it may, if transportation and funds etc were neglected, in hindsight, I would have loved to have at least tried to get into a school like Ruse. It would be the closest prestigious school available.
Any top 50 ranking school would be awesome though. Just because in a lot of my classes, I felt like there was not a lot of competition. I am sure I would have been able to go that extra mile at a school with more competition, even if it resulted in me ranking dead last in MX2, for example XD.
Plus, I always found myself a little misunderstood because I believe in working hard and not being lazy lol. Come to think of it, I reckon I would have procrastinated less at home if I went to a selective school lol.

Well there was really no choice for me for a high school, there are only two in our area, unless I want an hour bus ride into Newcastle. But it wasn't until I met my boyfriend that I realized I could of actually gotten into the selective school he went to, but my primary school was never offered the exam for enrollment, and now I regret that I never asked about it, thinking about how different things could of been. Even the performing arts school, it would of been amazing to go there, and I could of made it in, but my parents never really offered me anything and I feel like I've missed out on so many opportunities because I had to go to one of the worst schools in Port Stephens.

Nup no regrets.
My school had a great atmosphere, especially in Year 12.
Having smaller number of students in each class has its disadvantages of course, but it also meant that teachers were more friendly/helpful for us and were always happy to help us at anytime (not doubting this doesn't happen with big cohorts either though).

I went to the school I did my HSC at for 10 years which wouldn't have been possible if I disliked it.


P.S. I think my school had the best gardens ever!! So greeeeen, OMG.
