I wanna do all the hardest papers first, but i don’t know which ones are the hardest. i’ve already started with the 2020 paper, which ones next? (2019 onwards)
thank you!
For Mathematics Standard 2, here’s a general ranking based on feedback and analysis for papers from 2019 onwards, which you could use to prioritize your study:

1. 2019 HSC Paper
  • Many students found this paper particularly difficult due to tricky algebra and financial mathematics questions. The focus on annuity calculations and mathematical modeling threw many off, making it a more challenging paper.
2. 2020 HSC Paper
  • This paper had a strong focus on statistics and financial mathematics. While some found it more accessible, the multi-step nature of questions—particularly in the data analysis section—caught students off guard.
3. 2021 HSC Paper
  • Slightly easier than the 2019 and 2020 papers, though still challenging in the sections dealing with algebraic expressions and trigonometry. The problems involving rates and ratios also proved to be tricky.
4. 2022 HSC Paper
  • This paper is considered to be one of the more straightforward ones, but it still contained some difficult questions, especially around network theory and investment analysis.
Recommendations:
If you’ve already done 2020, I'd suggest moving to 2019, as that one is widely regarded as difficult. After that, 2021 would be a good next choice, as it provides a different set of challenges.

If you can get a hold of the independent and CSSA papers they are really good cause they test every little detail of the syllabus, making them much more difficult than even the 2020 HSC. but it all depends on the skills and well if your teacher has the papers since they are copyright protected meaning you can't really share them around.

Here’s an updated ranking for the Mathematics Advanced HSC papers from 2019 to 2023, incorporating feedback and analysis from various sources:

  1. 2020 HSC Paper
    • This paper is still regarded as one of the most challenging due to its focus on complex algebra and problem-solving. Questions on calculus and integration were particularly tricky, requiring a deep understanding of concepts. Many students found the multi-step problems daunting, which added to its overall difficulty.
  2. 2023 HSC Paper
    • The 2023 paper was noted for its emphasis on challenging algebra and higher-order functions, similar to 2020. However, it introduced some innovative question types that caught students off guard. Feedback indicated that the overall difficulty was high, particularly in questions requiring critical thinking and application of concepts.
  3. 2021 HSC Paper
    • This paper was seen as slightly easier than the 2020 and 2023 papers but still contained challenging sections, especially in calculus and polynomials. While it offered a mix of easier questions, students noted that some problems required advanced problem-solving skills.
  4. 2019 HSC Paper
    • The 2019 paper featured a mix of easier and more difficult questions. Students reported tricky sections, particularly in geometry and trigonometry. Overall, it was challenging but not as intense as the 2020 and 2023 papers.
  5. 2022 HSC Paper
    • Considered one of the more straightforward papers, with accessible questions overall. While there were some challenging topics in statistics and financial mathematics, most students found it manageable compared to previous years.
Recommendations:
If you've completed the 2020 paper, the next step would be to tackle the 2023 paper to expose yourself to its unique question types. After that, consider working on the 2021 paper for a balanced mix of challenges. Finally, the 2019 paper can provide additional practice with tricky concepts, while the 2022 paper serves as a consolidation of your skills.

I hope this helps 😀

I don't think year 9/10 math requires ranking of the difficulty

you realise there are common questions between standard and advanced? i’m basically asking which papers share the most questions with advanced. regardless of how easy something is, it can still be ranked in difficulty.
he’s a bit of a bozo but the hardest standard questions might not necessarily be the crossover advanced questions, as some advanced questions are free

that’s fair, but i’m not really getting any answers so 😭
receiving no answers is better than receiving a wrong answer
just do sample and 2020-2023 tbh, you got enough time

That's true but imo I'd rather have a easy test with horrible scaling like the 2023 one, than hard one and better scaling.
isn't easy test with horrible alignment worse 💀. u get like 0 room for error
in a hard test with good alignment, ifl you get more room for error so your range of marks should be smaller given the more forgiving alignment.
