Hey guys! I'm a UNSW student - I built "paper.ac" (that's the link), a workspace for studying from your own lectures, PDFs, and notes. Unlimited AI summaries, flashcards, quizzes, and chat with your sources.

Heavily inspired by Notion and Obsidian for the editor - it's effectively Notion capabilities and design + NotebookLM functionalities. It also takes inspo from Anki for the spaced-repetition flashcards, and Kahoot for the live quiz mode - but everything works together in one workspace instead of four separate apps.

What you can do:

• Drop in PDFs, Word/PPT docs, YouTube lectures, or paste a website -> auto-summary, flashcards, and quizzes in ~30 seconds

• Chat with your notes in plain English - every answer cites the exact page number or timestamp, so you can verify it's not hallucinating

• Spaced-repetition flashcards (Anki-style) with auto-generated cards from your own material

• Live quiz mode (Kahoot-style) for solo or group study

• Notion-style editor with slash commands and blocks - plus one-click import from your existing Notion workspace

Free while I'm in beta. Happy to take honest feedback - would rather hear "this sucks because X" than polite silence!

i cant see how it would be optimal using your website as opposed to notebooklm unless you adopt some distinct feature thats worth paying for when its out of beta.
its a good idea but theyre just extremely similar :hammer:

Honestly, fair point. Right now the main difference is Paper has a built-in Notion replica editor (so you can take notes alongside your sources) and spaced repetition for flashcards - but I know that's not a huge gap.

I'm still figuring out what makes it worth using over NotebookLM. If you have a study workflow that NotebookLM doesn't do well, I'd genuinely love to hear it - that's the kind of thing I want to build for

atm with notebooklm, sometimes it doesnt read all the data in the sources i give it which can be frustrating, especially if i need a summary or a pinpoint detail in a large body of text

it also gets confused between sources as well, even if i were to name the files individually. say i add 5 sources titled "xxx" and another 5 sources "yyy"
i ask it to give me a summary of xxx, sometimes it will get confused and reference some aspects yyy too
it doesnt sound too jarring but i find that it happens half the time and i waste lots of time proof reading

im not very familiar with the others but i hope that helped a bit

that actually helps a lot!

the cross-contamination thing is something I ran into too. In Paper you can select exactly which sources the AI looks at for each question, and even scope it down to a specific page range or timestamp window. So if you only want it looking at "xxx" pages 12-20, it literally only sees that slice - cant accidentally reference "yyy" because it's not in the context at all

the missing details thing is harder to fully solve but scoping to smaller chunks helps there too since the AI has less to sift through

would be curious if that actually fixes it for you if you tried it - lmk!
