Atmosphere wise, it might motivate you because of the competition etc etc.

Otherwise, not really - you get what ever ATAR you deserve in the end.

Nope, doesn't make a difference. It's why there's people at Ruse that get 70 UAI, whereas there's Jessica Tong at MLC who gets 100. In other words, it's the student

The only reason selective schools perform well is because they have already hoarded all the good students. There is no special teaching method, or special facilities (in fact most selectifve schools like ruse and baulkho are too pov to accomodate state of the art facilities that are available in other schools). If you're going to a good school already, dont worry about moving, it'll just cause more inconvenience as you get used to a new environment. Also, you'll miss your friends.Hope I helped.

i changed in year 11 and to be honesty, I don't think it made any difference - actually I think i would've done better if I had stayed cause everyone in my old school works SO hard... I'm so lazy now...

Theoretically you can achieve highly at any school.

At a selective school the learning environment and discussions are more high order thinking, and the 'competition', of the other students and the high standards strive to make you do better.

That being said, I wouldn't change in yr 12. Too hard to fit in to a new social circle when there's a shitload of work to be done. You don't want that time/energy socialising with new people haha. + close friends are so important for support

As long as your school is reasonable, and not completely derro, and full of class-disrupters...if you work just as hard as the kids in private schools you'll do just as well as any private school kid.

No. The environment may help, but it's really your own effort and motivation.

Source: I go to a non selective/private school and doing relatively well.

The only reason ppl do well in the hsc in Ruse is because they get tutored in EVERYTHING. I have friends going to 2 different places for tutoring for the same subject. No1 in ruse actually pays that much attention in class, except for maths

^ even those who get tutored at all ( I go to High and there are some top students here that don't do any tutoring what so ever) is that they work really hard and don't procrastinate as much as we do.
