I'm hearing different things from teachers and students at my school... say if you wanna do both Maths and English extension, some say they're not counted as a part of the minimum 12 we must do. Therefore, they'd end up with 14 units. But others say they do count towards the minimum 12, which would leave them with 12 units. I'm inclined to believe that they don't count as a part of the min. 12, as thats what the deputy said, but would like confirmation.

Your 12 units in Preliminary year is made up of ANY 2units or extension subjects (1 unit)

For example -

2unit English
2unit Math
1 Unit Extension Math
2unit Physics
2unit Chemistry
2unit Software design and development
1unit Philosophy

2+2+1+2+2+2+1 = 12units, as required by Prelim HSC.

Yes, they do count.

Ext. courses are only 1 unit though, as opposed to most other subjects which are 2 units.
So, if you were to do both english and maths ext. courses, plus 6 other subjects you would have 14 units altogether.

I thought that they didn't count at first, thanks for posting this to clear it up for people who are confused (I sought advice from careers adviser tbh)
