@jimmysmith560 Would love to call in the big guns if you don't mind 🙏
Based on this information, your current performance seems consistent with an ATAR of up to 78.

Modern History is your best-performing subject, especially given your optimal rank. Should you also achieve the highest HSC exam mark within your cohort for this subject, the moderation process will essentially work in your favour, meaning that your overall HSC mark would be made equal to your HSC exam mark. This gives you a great opportunity to maximise your result in this subject, and consequently maximise its contribution to your ATAR. Hopefully you did well!

Your performance is not unfavourable in English Advanced, Geography or Legal Studies, although there is clear room for improvement to your overall performance in each subject, which is possible through favourable HSC exam performance. Hopefully you did well in your English Advanced HSC exam, and best of luck with Legal Studies and Geography. You also still have plenty of time to continue preparing for the latter, and you should definitely make the most of it to ensure the best possible result.

On the other hand, Mathematics Standard is your lowest-performing subject and will likely prevent you from reaching a higher ATAR at this stage. Improvement is therefore crucial to reduce the chances of this happening, so hopefully you did well in this subject's HSC exam.

I hope this helps! :D

I just got results back for the first term of year 12 and didnt perform well in subjects like mx1, my personal goal is to get a 99 atar, but im not sure if its still possible now. Can someone please let me know based on these marks, given i still do have 3 more terms of assessments and externals.

Here are my marks/ranks, i attend a top 30-40 school and do 10 units

SubjectRank/MarkBand 6s
Economics100% (Rank 1/66)2023: 9
2022: 6
2021: 10
Business Studies90% (Rank 1/55)2023: 24
2022: 21
2021: 23
Math Advanced91% (Around Top 30/171)2023: 45
2022: 40
2021: 26
English Advanced95% (Around Top 25/158)2023: 38
2022: 35
2021: 42
Math Extension 148% (Near Bottom Of Cohort of 94)2023: 40
2022: 29
2021: 38
SOR 1We didn't have any assessment for SOR this term
(I got rank 6/108 in y11 for reference of how i perform in this subject)
2023: 12
2022: 23
2021: 23

So main questions are, can I still get a band 6 in mx1 and is an overall 99 atar still possible

@jimmysmith560
The fact that you do not yet have a rank based on your performance in the Studies of Religion I year 12 course means that we would have to consider your year 11 position instead, which may limit the accuracy of estimates that you might receive. However, you can still gain a reasonable idea of your current overall level of performance.

Given this information, you seem to be on track with an ATAR of up to 97.5. Your position is favourable in most of your subjects. Economics and Business Studies are your best-performing subjects given your optimal rank in both. Maintaining this rank would allow you to maximise your Assessment Mark (internal mark), that is, the mark that contributes 50% of your overall HSC mark, in both subjects. You should therefore continue to apply your effective study strategy in both subjects.

Much of the same can be suggested regarding your position in Mathematics Advanced and English Advanced, meaning that both subjects are likely to make a positive contribution that is consistent with your ATAR goal. It is therefore important to do your utmost to maintain (and if possible, improve) your position in both subjects as you progress through year 12.

On the other hand, Mathematics Extension 1 is your lowest-performing subject and is likely the one to make the difference at this stage. To answer your questions, you can still achieve a band E4 in this subject overall, as long as you do your utmost to improve your position through favourable performance in your remaining tasks, as well as through the HSC exam. A significant improvement in this subject will bring you closer to your ATAR goal.

I hope this helps! :D
