So I'm already struggling in some subjects at school, and it's like a chain when I don't get this I don't get that and so on from what the teachers say. I want to get a tutor, but is there really a point? Cause I've had a tutor in primary school, and they personally fed me with all this useless irrelevant information, which actually interfered with my marks.

Regardless, I just want to know how much they cost on average now a days, and where can I find a good tutor?

take a look: General - Bored of Studies

Also you can get a tutor, but you could also self study, just make sure you get the content and stuff by studying at home.

I had a tutor back in year 8 or 9, it was for maths, in my opinion it was a waste of time and money, because I didnt study at all because of tutoring and in year 10 I did self study and found that my marks had improved.

But you should get a tutor if you need one, past HSC students should be helpful as they can tell you how to earn more marks and they know the content etc...

to be honest, tutoring is a total waste of time... i've never had a tutor or been to a coaching college before, so I wouldnt know like whether they teach the right stuff or not.
but if you are determined and just persevere, your marks should improve!
whenever i dont understand stuff, since i have noone to fall back on (i.e. tutor) i just sit there quietly and think and work through and read it over and over again until I get it!!

good luck.

I'd suggest a personal tutor.

I have a personal one that is quite flexible eg i haven't seen him in 2 weeks because of exams. It's quite useful because you can ask him/her anything you don't understand and you can go at your own pace :)

If anyone but you said that I would think they're nuts. lol

Nah I guess you're right.. why bother going when you can self study and get better results

as for competition.. like did they take exams of people there or something? or was the teaching not right?

Teaching was okay...but my only issue was that the teacher was always late by like 20 minutes. She was the top teacher there as I was in the top class called "Acceleration class". But even in that class, people weren't exactly smart. I mean, come on...how can you get like 50% in such an easy exam? (WHEN YOU ARE IN THE TOP CLASS!)

Don't you love profiteering from HSC students? I see nothing wrong with some good ol' fashioned, self motivated studying. =]
