    my school rank was just above 400, and there was a girl in my cohort who was comming first in 6 subjects, however her atar was only ~88, so u have to get good marks as well as high ranks to get the atar you require

A course quota applies." i think OP means does abl/law have higher course quotas...

    no not at all, u will still be able to even get a band 6, as your assesment marks are moderated by your exam marks

    write lots of pratice essays, get feedback from your teachers, once you're both happy memorise them and then adapt them to the question

    At the end of the day, its still the same qualification! Sure, degrees from top notch Unis such USYD or UNSW come with a higher reputation, but in this day and age that only takes you so far. Either way, after you land your first job, you will have experience and thats what employers look for...
