    standard deviation

    well the formula is √ { [∑(y-y')2]/(n-1)} where y are the elements y' is the mean n= number of elements manual method: i'll use an example... example: find mean and s.d. of 2, 3, 6, 10 mean = (2+3+6+9)/4 = 5 s.d. calculate ∑(y-y')2 = (2-5)2 + (3-5)2 + (6-5)2 + (9-5)2 = 9 + 4 + 1 + 16...

    60 uai ? diffifcult

yeah the distribution is negatively skewed. you would think the average is 50. but this is only true if no one drops out after year 10, which is what the uai assumes. but of course, there are quite a number who drop out before that so the average uai score (who actually sits the hsc) is quite...

    60 uai ? diffifcult

if you are an above (state) average student then it won't be too hard. the median uai is about 66.

    changing lanes

five seconds is way too much...in those "tight situations" you *should* be staying in your own lane anyway (although not the case in reality i guess, but may be a reason why they would change the rule). maybe you should do one quick lesson with a driving instructor before you do the actual...

    is this a better alternative?

is umat so hard that you *need* a whole year to prepare for it after you finish your vce (i don't know, i've never done it)? if you're that set on doing medicine, why don't you do both this year and then if you don't make it do it all again? that would prepare you better if you don't make it.

Just what this forum needs...Another red P-plate Q

Are you talking about the F6? If it was the F6 at night then the licenced driver because the cops generally look for people over the limit (i.e. over 100km/h) its harder to tell the difference between green and red p platers. if you're a p plater and going 100 even if you're on reds you *should*...

    Which should I choose??

chances are if you're in the exam you will go with the easy option but if you practice enough you can make the "harder" version the easy version.

Exponentials to the power of themselves

they are steeper than your normal exponential curves.

Do you think this is right?

at my old school we had to do a speech about three texts that had to include one we saw during one recess. so that's similar, sort of. although everyone just compared notes anyway and went heaps well. you can complain but if you do chances are next time your school will give you ample notice...

    Liar, Liar, Tyres on Fire

I think I understand what you mean. But you shouldn't be giving other drivers that much room, even if they were in the wrong.

    Student Travel Concession question

Why *didn't* you apply for student concession? You can still apply, go to Student Admin and ask them how. If you're lucky they will just put the sticker on then and there.

    Atomic Structure

for senior chemistry just use 2-8-8 (two first shell, 8 next two) rule for your rule of thumb. as has been said, they only deal with the first 20 elements when it comes to atomic structure.

Is this part of the 2u course?

check the syllabus just to be sure, but really once you know up to five you know them all. if they tested on more then its just more tedious and will take longer to answer and would be a waste in an exam.
