A question for all science nerds

I wouldn't say CSSA is harder, but I think CSSA lacks clarity - which makes it difficult to gain marks. They're too vague in the wording of their question, yet are highly specific in their marking criteria (for example the Ideas to Implementation question in this year's paper). With most...

    Accelerated Mathematics?

+1 Accelerated Mathematics, or acceleration in general, I think, is one of the greatest initiatives a school can implement and if you're able to do it - embrace the opportunity. Even if you decide to take on Mathematics Extension II like I did, by accelerating maths, I find that you strengthen...

There isnt an "adv maths" option...

    1. There is Advanced Maths - Sam calls it Mathematics. 2. You have to put it into perspective. Getting a 75 in Advanced English would be considered either low-average or even below average, as most candidates get within the Band 5/6 range due to moderation and scaling. Whereas in Standard...

What Marks Do You Need to get 95+

It really depends on your subjects. If you do the high scaling combinations such as Extension Maths, English (Advanced), English Extension, Physics, Chemistry, Economics etc - then you only need to get an aligned HSC mark of 85 and above - which realistically in raw terms, isn't too hard to get...

    2009 Independant Paper - 4U

Hello guys, I've just been given a copy of the Independant Trial and I was wondering if anyone had a copy of the solutions - specifically the last two bits of the conics question? If anyone does, could they upload it or give me a PM. That would be much appreciated.

    Truongs Maths Tutoring, any comments?

Re: Fairfield Troung's recommendation - English He's been with Truong for a while now. I attended some of his classes in my junior years - he's quite a good teacher, it's just English tutoring didn't seem necessary for me anymore.

    graduation, how do u feel?

Far out, Blacktown has exactly the same thing as Fairfield, only they're merging the concert and prizegiving night this year into the Year 12 Grad night for Year 12.

    Truongs Maths Tutoring, any comments?

Re: Fairfield Troung's recommendation - English I know that with Miss Diab, if you ask her and she's willing to teach you, then you don't have to deal with sir. I'm not sure with Mr Tishler or any of the other teachers.

    Truongs Maths Tutoring, any comments?

Re: Fairfield Troung's recommendation - English Maths - he teaches directly English - he hires the assistant principal of Macquarie Fields and also a senior teacher from Sefton. Physics and Chem - he has a partnership with Peak Science.

    Conical Pendulum Motion - Help

Hey Guys, I'm a bit lost on the second part of this question: Two light inextensible strings AB and BC are each length l are attatched to a particle of mass m a B. The other ends A and C are fixed to two points in a verticle line such that A is distance l above C. The particle describes a...

ATAR Estimate - Just out of curiosity

Hey guys, After viewing all the ATAR estimate threads, I'm curious on what you guys would think my ATAR would be. I go to a school which gets into the Top 200 consistently, but slipped significantly in 2008 [2007: 126; 2008: 250th]. My current ranks: Business Studies - 1/82 Mathematics...

how to get hsc mark of 75+ in 4unit??

I'd assume harder 3u as well, but most of the harder 3u is basically stuff like inequalities, induction and calculus in Q1-5 (I think Circle Geometry for 4U is hard). Also you can make up for it by doing the mechanics, volumes and usually polynomial and complex questions in Q6-8 (or at least...

    MX1 raw for band 6.

I've done these papers and I think 2001 is actually easier than 2004 and 2005, maybe that's just me. All the cutoff marks seem quite low in comparison to what people are getting in the trials.

not being allowed to do 4u

Hurlstone's very strong with mathematics, a fair few go to my tutor. I would dedicate a lot of time in doing past prelim papers. Also, just curious (because I know a fair few people who go there) - does the top 30 include the accelerated class or is the 30 people based on the non-accelerated...

not being allowed to do 4u

True, BUT, in this case, the school is running at least a class of the subject, so they are capable in offering you a position and although it's not reccomended, some schools (like my own for some subjects) exceed 30 students. Not advised but it can be done, unless the public system has some...
