    Post Your Study Timetable!

Over-studying can happen. I been pushing myself the past few days and I feel like I've burnt out today, wasn't thinking properly when I was doing my 4U and physics paper - which led to silly errors which I wouldn't normally make and got to a point where I just quit half way through my english...

What do you do in your study breaks?

I grab a bite to eat, then I go on google news to read the updates and occasionally go on BOS and read some threads and facebook if it's the end of the day.

    ranking with small classes?

For people in your situation, ranking doesn't matter too much, provided that you all perform well in the HSC externals. However if 5th onwards doesn't perform as well as the top 4, then they'll be pushed down. Therefore its the performance of your cohort as a whole which is essential.

    Substitution Question Query.

I would think in the HSC yes, but fundamentally you ARE using their substitution, but instead of differentiating initially, you're squaring first. The only concern I'd have is whether implicit differentiation would be awarded marks in an Extension I exam on the criteria (should be fine in...

    business studies scales well??

My bad about the scaling bit. But still, with business studies, especially in the top end, they won't align you and even if they do it would be insignificant. Why? Because it is literally possible to get close to or even get 100% in the external HSC. It's not a subject like MX2 - for...

    business studies scales well??

Business Studies has very average scaling - scales similar to subjects such as Biology, Legal Studies etc. Basically what you get in the exam is what you'd expect as your moderated HSC mark, don't expect any miracles.

Trial Papers that best simulate the HSC

Thanks for the tips guys. I've just done some NEAP papers and I'm quite happy with it actually. They feel like some of the earlier HSC papers and they get you thinking quite a bit, nothing you can't do, but not as straight forward as the HSC.

    Hard differentiation

    Let dy/dx = y' Therefore the derivative with respect to x of ln (y-x) would be: \frac{y'-1}{y-x}

    In search of some advice...

With only two weeks left, I'm sure you can push a bit harder. I mean, even if you do burn out, you'll still have the knowledge from your previous preperation - it's not like you'll forget, just means you can't cram the night before an exam, which isn't advised anyway.

Trial Papers that best simulate the HSC

Hey guys, I'm coming to a point where I'm almost finished the HSC papers for this decade. Because the syllabus was changed in 2001, I can't really do past papers that were written before 2001 (except for maths), so I was wondering, in your opinion, which trial papers best simulate the HSC...

Business studies - HSC 2009 predictions

Finance is easy. Besides, you'll still have to memorise finance for the business report anyway.

So inspirational Andrew :) Only thing I don't agree with is the selective schools bit, but that's not important. :p

    4u maths?

For me, 4 unit maths gave me a big kick in the ass - that I had to start doing maths exercises. It was beneficial, I think the amount of practice that 4U maths forced me to do has dramatically improved my maths. As above, my only downfall in 3u is silly mistakes. I make a heck of a lot of them...

    Recommended/Good HSC SOR textbooks

To be honest, Studies of Religion is a subject where you can rely on notes from BoS and still do well. Your school textbook should be fine (I don't even use that). I did however, purchase the NEW Excel Studies of Religion book (the old one by Fleming is crap) and I quite like it. Also Living...

Yeah probably. Year 12s from St. Johns' Park High School I think. It's sad that it happened to close to their graduation.

Business studies - HSC 2009 predictions

I think it will be finance & global or a slight chance of employment relations & global - due to the economic downturn - I'm guessing they'd put something on global.

    graduation, how do u feel?

LOL - sounds like my school. Even the police part - they've called the Highway Patrol to monitor us leaving the carpark. Freeman sounds strict, but a lot of people reckon it's not as strict as Patrician Brothers' College (Fairfield) though.

'Imaginative Writing' - what forms would be classified under this

Hey guys, I'm a bit confused about the wording of 'imaginative writing'. If I were to do a form, lets say for example, a speech or a feature article, would it still be classified as imaginative writing, or do I have to stick to the more to the traditional forms like narratives, diary entries etc.

    Possible Exam Questions

Well, I'm doing essays, pretty much the same thing, and my teacher said that although unlikely, they could, which I'm worried about (I have 6 essays). LOL - she wasn't asking about questions that require you to write in the form of a speech. In the HSC level, not all core texts are novels or...
