Hi guys!
I've been viewing these cadetship threads for a while but havent said anything
Right now I've done the EY online assessment thing but havent gotten a reply
with BDO I'm doing the online interview and UBS I've passed the first round interview
Just wondering what PCA means by 'the next stage of the selection process'- is it a second round interview or does UBS cut people before that?

Hi have you got two online assessments from EY? how come I just got one personality assessment. Only 15 questions.
Same. Online it said:
You may be invited to complete a situational questionnaire and an aptitude ability test if you progress through our process. Please check your email regularly for updates as you will have 48 hours to complete these.
So I'm not sure anymore

I got the aptitude test and the situational one. It could be that possibly your subjects or grades give them more confidence so they aren't worried about you doing the aptitude test. Not really sure though.

IB internships or Big 4 cadetship? Aspirations are in financial services (I only see the Big 4 as a way of gaining professional experience for a year or two).
I'd say multiple internships in the financial services are going to be way more beneficial than a cadetship at an accounting firm. End of the day when you're going for a job in the financial sector you'd rather have relevant experience under your belt as opposed to two years of professional experience as a cadet in an industry that may not be relevant at all.

That being said it can also come down to which line of service you work in as a cadet. If you're applying for a job in the financial sector, experience as an assurance cadet in the financial services will probably carry more weight than a cadet who has worked in tax.

I only partially agree with this in principle as it definitely varies in terms of what's "better" to help you get into the job you want, and if you're planning to only do it for a year or two in an undergraduate role, then realistically it's how good you are at spinning your experience as opposed to the substance of it all.

When you say (etxpy) you want to work in financial services, what do you mean by this? The industry is very broad (you've included banks, insurers, PE funds, etc) and so are the individual roles... and that's before we even consider the blurring of the lines between various previously discrete sectors. You did suggest IB internships in which case if this is the exact path you plan to go down, then even getting one IB internship puts you in a far better position than doing the cadetship program, but for generic broad FS roles whether it be front or back of house, and across various organisation types, or even up and coming disruptors, then I'd say getting a broader range of experience is probably more beneficial.

Haha, specifically IB industry/coverage groups. But to be fair, any FO role including restructuring I wouldn't be against. In the near future I will most likely have a few IB and buyside roles lined up, so I was just weighing the costs/benefits of working one year in a Big 4

Well a cadetship is for 2 years, and whilst you may strike it lucky and get the perfect blend of opportunities/experience to help you get the job you want, I don't think you'll get that much out of it if your mindset is you plan to leave within a year as most of the 'gains' in development occur from doing something over at least 2 years IMO. Maybe at graduate level you might get more out of it in a year but at trainee/cadet level, I don't know if you'll learn enough to give you that huge an advantage especially as you'll still be grappling with basic accounting (and whatever specialisation/service area requirements are).

I went to a BDO meet and greet like 2 years ago now, didn't get a position there but it was a good experience

Also made me realise how much I don't like social events haha

Ditto. It's always good practice to improve at these networking events. Over time you realise it gets harder and harder if you don't get in early.
