Matter didn't exist, it was formed from energy. You could argue that energy did exist, but that depends on which theory you subscribe to. Some have a balance of positive and negative energy, meaning that no energy actually existed at t = 0.
True enough, but my point is that basically the building blocks of the universe existed, everything that is in the universe now existed at t=0, it was just in a different form (matter & energy are interchangeable).

1. What ever begins to exist must have a cause (metaphysical law)
Something can not have a cause without time, what exists now in the universe existed at time=0, perhaps in a different form but it existed. It's not tricky language and I don't think you've dealt with the problem at all.

3. Therefore, the universe must have a cause.
The entire concept of a 'cause' requires a before, "before" time is nonsense.

thread needs to pl0x read short history of time k
a brief history of time by hawking or a short history of everything by bryson? latter is more interesting.

1. So, if you heard a loud "bang" and asked "what was that?" and I replied "nothing", you would have no troubles accepting that? Why should it be any different for the "big bang"?
Scientific objections to (1) are often fielded from a perspective which endorses non-deterministic, or properly random, interpretations of quantum mechanics. If particles can spontaneously emerge in a non-deterministic way then causes may not be necessary in order for things to exist (though, I think one would be right to ask 'what kind of underlying fabric allows for such spontaneous existence in the first place?').

Yes.....
Oh , I wish i could express my thoughts as you do.
My thoughts are so clear and graceful in my mind but they come tumbling out of my mouth (fingertips)...so inapt and inarticulate that I am certain I appear benighted and bizzare.

this thread isnt a freaking advertisement for religion
I have to say I agree here.
We are dicussing whether a 'God' exists , not whether any specific religion is more valid than another... then again I get off topic pretty quick, so who am i to talk.

kfunk if you want to read something a little more rational
Thats so not true! :) Not fair.
Emys perspective is NOT comprehensively representative of a Christian view - Bradcube yeah?..... and Kfunk is brilliant but so it Kwayera , 3unitz , Dorisygirl, Schroe...etc etc etc
