I just want to know what you guys think Maths Advance scales like. Like for example, approximately what would be my scaled final mark if I get a raw mark of 65 in Advance maths? And what would a mark like 75 (raw) scale like?

Generally speaking, the alignment of Mathematics Advanced is fairly decent. While there is no data available in the HSC Raw Marks Database on the alignment of a raw Examination Mark of 65 specifically, there is data on similar raw marks:

YearRaw Mark (/100)Aligned Mark (/100)Band
2020
60
78
Band 4
2022
63
81
Band 5
2020
64
80
Band 5

This means that, if your raw mark ends up being 65, you can expect your Examination Mark to be in the high band 4 to low band 5 range. Of course, there is additional data on raw marks in this range. However, those marks are from HSC years that followed the previous Mathematics (which was Mathematics Advanced's previous name) syllabus.

The same applies to raw an Examination Mark of 75, that is, there is no data available on the alignment of this specific raw mark under the current syllabus, although there is data on similar raw marks:

YearRaw Mark (/100)Aligned MarkBand
2021
70
88
Band 5
2021
73
89
Band 5
2021
74
90
Band 6
2020
74
86
Band 5

As you can see, the alignment of raw marks in this range produces aligned marks that are significantly higher than those in the 65 range. This means that, if your raw mark ends up being 75, you can expect your Examination Mark to be in the high band 5 to low band 6 range.

Therefore, in order to achieve a favourable Examination Mark, you should do your utmost to prepare for your Mathematics Advanced HSC exam, which will hopefully enable you to perform well and get a mark that you would be happy with.

I hope this helps! :D

How come 2020 had much worse allignment? A 70 in 2021 alligned better.

Wouldn't 2021 allign worse, since the syllabus was online for a year at this point, and the studnets have more resources to do better in it, but still perform equally in other non math subjects, resulting in a lower alligned mark overall?

2020 was really easy paper, and 2021 was harder. they base alignment on how hard the paper was

Alignment has nothing to do with how well students do, it’s about reaching ‘band descriptors’. Basically a board of NESA people go through every test and then compare to the band descriptors to set a threshold for each band, and then align marks linearly between each band threshold. As a result, changes in alignment typically reflect objective changes in exam difficulty (irrespective of outside circumstances like covid)

The scaling between subjects for your ATAR occurs afterwards, (and is technically done to raw marks we don’t get to see, so aligned marks doesn’t actually matter) and is based on the relative performance of the cohort of the subject in english

Also, does your personal rank in school, and the ranking of your school as a whole compared to the state matter? Like does it have any effect on your mark in the HSC or your ATAR? (mb if this is a dumb question I have no clue)

Your school rank merely serves as an indicator of the academic capability of your cohort. For example, it is reasonable to assume that a high-ranked school will have an academically capable cohort, and that a low-ranked school is unlikely to have an academically capable cohort. However, your school rank itself is not used in any HSC mark or ATAR-related calculations.

Your rank in each of your subjects relative to your cohort is one of two elements (the other being HSC exam marks) that are used to determine your Assessment Mark (the mark that reflects your internal performance) in each of your subjects. This makes ranks an important elements and is also the reason that students who wish to maximise their Assessment Marks are encouraged to do their best to rank as high as possible across their subjects. The higher your rank in a particular subject, the higher your Assessment Mark is likely to be.

so when ur school rank is an indicator of ur cohort's academic capability... what is that then used for? if its not used in hsc mark calculations, then whats the significance of going to a high ranked school?

the ranking of your school has no direct bearing at all on your ATAR - NESA doesn't even publish school ranks, the media compile them using the very limited data publicly available (imo they do it in a very flawed manner, but i digress)

however, if you go to a 'lower ranked' school you will likely need to attain a high rank to do well. for example, if you came first at james ruse in physics internally, and the highest HSC exam mark at ruse was 97, then your school assessment mark (half of your overall mark) would be 97, whereas if you came first at some random rural school in physics internally, and the highest HSC exam mark in ur school was 85, then your school assessment mark (half of your overall mark) would be 85

this doesn't necessarily mean that you can't achieve a high atar at a low ranking school - you just need to rank higher (which is more achievable anyway since the cohort is weaker) and do well in the HSC exam to get the same mark, or, once you get to extremely low ranking schools, you just need to rank first and then do well in the exam so ur mark isn't influenced by anyone else at all.
