It's kinda complex and I can't say much without giving away a lot, but it's about women being able to use magic (called the One Power) when men cannot because their half is tainted. If he uses it, he will succumb to madness, and the women will do anything to stop a man who can channel the One Power. It took the author ten years to plan the series before he even began writing, has some 1500 named characters, and a projected total of 12 books, with 3 supplementary prequels.

Whoa! Crazy! i'm definitely gunna read that...but it will have to be some time after Harry potter. Loyalty is important.
