I'm currently thinking about

PHYS 1901 Physics 1A (Advanced)
MATH 1901 Differential Calculus (Advanced)
MATH 1902 Linear Algebra (Advanced)
CHEM 1901 Chemistry 1A (Advanced)
SOFT 1901 Software Development 1/(Adv)
The handbook recommends you don't do more than 12 CP of advanced subjects a semester... you have 30, so unless you are completely ultimate, you might want to rethink whether you want to do everything at advanced level :)

It's actually 24 there, but you can always do the advanced subjects next year with a distinction in the standard subjects. Which for first year at least is probably the easiest way so you get use to learning.

I've been wondering the same thing myself recently. Introductory software development could be useful experience before starting computational science in second semester. However, I'm doubting the usefulness of JAVA to COSC in Matlab or C.

I'm currently thinking about

PHYS 1901 Physics 1A (Advanced)
MATH 1901 Differential Calculus (Advanced)
MATH 1902 Linear Algebra (Advanced)
CHEM 1901 Chemistry 1A (Advanced)
SOFT 1901 Software Development 1/(Adv)

PHYS 1901 Physics 1A (Advanced):
I have chosen that because I'm planning doing a major in Physics, and also continue at postgraduate level.

MATH 1901 Differential Calculus (Advanced) & MATH 1902 Linear Algebra (Advanced):
These 2 units of maths are essential for understanding and comfort in PHYS 1901 Physics 1A (Advanced), cuz I don't think it's gonna be HSC physics.

CHEM 1901 Chemistry 1A (Advanced):
Very closely related to PHYS 1901 Physics 1A (Advanced) and will provide greater understanding of it's concepts.[I might even do a major in Chem as well as Physics]

Now: for the other 6 CP that I need, I might try a programming unit of study. I have done HSC SDD, so am a bit familiar with the concept of design and developemtn of softwares. I also do like programming a lot and am pretty able to learn it easily as well. But the problem I have right now is that which computer related unit of study is the exact one for me. so I have to go and read the hand book.

But.......if you have a course that you suggest might be the one for me.......I'll greatly apretiate if you let me know.

Thanks

Just out of curiosity...if I chose geology as one of my subjects for semester 2, and at the end of semester 1 I didn't want to do it anymore, is it possible to change the subject?

You only choose your first semester subjects at enrolment day. So, if you decide to study GEOL 1001 in first semester, you won't necessarily study GEOL 1002 in second semester.

hand book is directed at the MAJORITY of the population... i dare say taht most pplz visitin bos are above average... i got pretty fked up in my hsc, but still managed to pull a hd wam with 36 cp of adv units (cuz the rest 12 i need to study comm subjects... and comm don't offer adv lvl ><)

@tenille and zero pt:

edit: (correct me if i am wrong)
u can add a uni before the end of the respective semester... ie, u can add a uos to ur first sem before the end of 1st wk of 1st semester and vice versa...

u can withdraw before 31st may for first sem, 30th aug(?) in 2nd sem

u can discontinue without fail before soem day (forgot, check student center)

and u can discontinue with fail before some time right before exams (why bother??!!)

The deadline for withdrawl should be March 31st for sem 1, August 31st for sem 2. You can add units before the end of the 1st week each sem. So do some window shopping and compare.

Doing everything at the advanced level wasn't really a horrible workload for me. And not just me, a lot of advanced students are doing exactly that. Some TSP ppl even put a hell lot of effort into their projects while somehow neglect most of their advanced subjects, and most of them still end up with fantastic results. Of course that depends on the person. Have a go and see if you live up to the challenge. You can always drop back to the normal class after 2 or 3 weeks.

Mine is very different from those above...

First semester:
MATH1001 Differential Calculus
MATH1002 Linear Algebra
BIOL1901 Biology - Ecosytems to Genes (Advanced)
CHEM1901 Chemistry 1A (Advanced)
HPSC1000 Bioethics

Second semester:
MATH1003 Integral Calculus and Modelling
MATH1005 Statistics
BIOL1903 Human Biology (Advanced)
CHEM1902 Chemistry 1B (Advanced)
MBLG1001 Molecular Biology and Genetics (Intro)

I feel so happy to be enrolled and to actually be able to call myself a university student now instead of existing in some kind of void...how does everyone else feel about enrollment?
