There has been a funky 33%/33%/33% split between the three major parties every time I look at this poll. Other, real, professional polls of Australia youth also produce a similar split. Interesting.

Why does this offend people so? I don't support it and understand there a problems with the current model but people don't seem to object to the model they seem to hate the idea of internet filtering. If the majority of content that was blocked was illegal content, eg movie downloads, child pornography, slanderous libels why is that a problem? It's illegal activity merely enforced like putting extra speed cameras on highways... This is directed at Mcflystar btw because he's not an anarchist loon i don't want to heard Jennyfromdabloc and Sylvester reciting their "freedom" rants we've heard more times than "working families".
Movie downloading is a victimless crime and the rest of the filter is just censorship, it will never be able to successfully do what it sets out to achieve, i.e. stop child porn.

Movie downloading is theft and robs hardworking entertainers of the royalties that they have earned. There was no uproar when the act was made a crime so why is their problems with policing a criminal act? The rest of your complain is with the model not with the idea of a filter aimed at combating child porn and slander.

I'd love for it to be true but I suspect that in the eighties the educated youth supported the democrats in excess of 25% and then the voters aged. The greens have ridden momentum for the past decade but are facing two big question marks in the next five or six years that could finish them, one is the imminent departure of Bob Brown who cannot lead them for eternity and the other is they will soon control the balance of power in the senate quite easily and will be nowhere near close to be able to form a coalition government with the ALP, they may even struggle to get lower house representation. I think having achieved the big goal of the past six years and being at least ten years away from the next major goal may cause the enthusiasm of their volunteers, campaigners and staff to fizzle a bit.

Because its stupid, most of the content they are trying to filter can be attained via P2P networks, which can not be policed. Why bother implementing something that will cut network speeds in half and do little nothing to stopping CP?

MS's PhotoDNA would work infinite times better then any filter would.

This is so true. Although I am quite against the filter model proposed as it is censorship which blocks out content as the government sees fit, the whole music, video and software piracy thing has gotten COMPLETELY out of hand. It is becoming mainstream thinking that people can just get their hands on this content with no cost as a right of passage. As a result the quality and quantity of this content is already severely suffering. This stuff doesn't fall out of the sky, it takes time and costs money to produce. I too indulge in this piracy, but at the same time I can see how it's completely unsustainable and unjust.

I know it's cool to just say 'fuck'em i want free movies' but let's face it, it's stealing, and something's gotta give.

A friend of mine DLs a couple of episodes from a series, if he likes them, he goes out and buys the box set. Same with games, he tests with DLed copies, then goes out and buys legit versions.

Yeah, but the vast majority of downloaders wouldn't do this. They get their downloaded copy and they're set.

How the hell are the Greens winning >.<

If the Greens ever gain a majority, I will literally unscrew my door and float on it to Indonesia.

Oh and I assumed this was for House of Reps. In Reps. I'll vote Libs. and vote Family First in Senate.

Family First? Really? May I ask why? IMO the idea of them in power is far more scary than the Greens.

Why not? They are certainly a major party in various state governments and they are becoming one on the Federal level. Any party that holds the balance of power all by itself could easily be considered a major party, likewise for any party that manages to gain and hold lower house seats (hasn't happened yet for the Greens, but there are a few signs it will next election).

If you need a grand coalition to get something through because a single other party is blocking it, I would call that party a major party.

Says the guy who votes Family First.

You want to know why the Greens are doing well? It's because they support civil rights and liberties; the same rights and liberties parties like Family First seek to curtail. Who woulda thunk it that people like their freedoms?

Well, with labour wanting to filter the net resulting in slow speed and good things being mistakenly blocked, and liberal wanting to brainwash religion into the kiddies, I think ill be drawing a nice big veiny phallus on my ballot.
