Re: Leaving school depression?

I'm in the same boat it will be over so soon that forming connections with people seems so pointless and meaningless as i'll be moving away soon anyway. I turned 18 last week and it was depressing being an adult just seems so wrong.

But i could be depressed about somthing i cant change or i can have a positive attitude. If you really think uni will be shit and boring then that is what it will be, you cant change much about life but you can still have fun...

Sometimes happiness is a choice so you can choose to be happy or you can bitch and whine about life your choice at the end of the day...(to be fair i'm in the whining category lol)

Re: Leaving school depression?

Hello all.

Obviously, i've been lurking these forums for a while, just reading up, i love knowing i'm not alone in this battle, for an awesome ATAR.. but i've registered to get some feedback..

Although the HSC has been a major stress to me and everyone, and we all can't wait to feel it disappear when it's all over, but i am really confused and actually, quite depressed in day to day life as i look into the future, so i have posted here as maybe some of you can relate, you are all obviously intellegent people and undergo the same lifestyle of just study study study.

I'll get straight to it. I do not wan't to grow up.

i have recently turned 18 and lfie has appeared so dull, not that the environment i'm in is dull (i've got all i want/need, plenty of friends, plenty of sex ect...) but just my mind, makes everything seem so bland.

Just knowing that, i'm never going to be a kid again, and lfie just gets more serious from here on. Leaving school, a place where you can hit on girls every day, study with friends, socialise and have authority over you. It's a fun thing, and i'm going to miss days so much like this.

University seems fun, but just not the same.

Honestly, does anyone else not want to leave school so much? Does anyone else really getd epressed when thinking about growing up?

I seriously get so ill about it, i lose sleep, i get depressed as a molocule, i'd rather do the HSC every year for the rest of my life then go grow up.

Honestly, it sucks. I'm 18, i can no longer drink alchahol illegally, it used to be so fun knowing it was illegal, now its fucking shit. Everything will be the same.. i don't want to drive places, i don't want to 'learn independantly' , i don't want to get a job (i'll be a programmer, the best there ever was) and program, and earn money for what.

I just want to be a kid, life is so much better as a kid, and sorry for this post if it's just stupid, it's just i've been sitting here for 3 hours , unable to study, staring at a wall thinkinbg about how awesome my childhood has been and how i'm never ever going to sit down and play a sega and think it was the best thing ever, i'll never appreciate 2d graphics ( unless i'm programming the games myself), i'll be old, being 19, i won;t be surrounded by 14 year old girls desperate to lose their virginity, i've actually had my love story, it was good, but now what, i've got nothing to look forward to in life, i know i'm going to be wealthy and have friends.

sorry , i've just dumped all my emotions on this stupid board, fuck i'm going to miss school and being a kid.

Now must prepare for the rage.

thanks for reading i guess.
I can't wait to go to uni. I'm sick of school and most of the shit we learn is useless.

Re: Leaving school depression?

i hate school so much. If it is possible, I would make some kind of contract with devil so that I can finish school RIGHT NOW and get about 1 or 2 less ATAR than what I would get if I continued.
haha, i wouldn't give up atar points, but i'd give up my holidays.

i'm desperate to leave school, but also desperate not to grow up. sometimes i get upset and yearn for childhood again, like primary school, so i can redo it all, and other times i realise how much i hate school and i just want to be out of there.

Uni's not that bad really. Sure, it may be quite different from high school (i.e. you guys get spoonfed) but once you settle in it would all be fine.

Feeling mild apprehension like that is quite common, but you should let it overrule you =/

school doesnt have dry ice, uni does.
school didnt have partial differential equations to spend 10 bloody minutes on each question to solve, uni does.
school doesnt have oscilloscopes you can play with, uni does.

Failing the HSC is not the end of the world. There are alternate ways to the university degree you want, like UTS Insearch.

If you do fail, then you just have to cop some flack from the parents for a while, but it'll dissipate in time.

Don't worry.
well they say that:

Depression is bad enough, but during the HSC is just plain torture. Have someone to talk to, thats a good start. Know that you can get special provisions during the trials and the HSC, thats a great help, too.
If you're unlucky and have anxiety, or both depression and anxiety, I know where you are coming from. Seek professional help NOW! They will help you organise your like and study time, and if it is severe they can put you on the right medication to help. I would not suggest seeing a doctor, as they will just put you on the medication, and not offer any further help. If they do, it can cost you HEAPS! Even going through your school councellor can be beneficial.
Do not, I repeat, DO NOT LET IT GO UNTREATED!

Re: Leaving school depression?

I've heard that if you like school, you're gonna hate uni.
On the other hand, if you hate school (like me), you'll love uni.
True to a certain degree. But uni is like doing the HSC again every 6 months - as a friend pointed out.

And to the OP, isn't fun to you more about drinking/hanging with friends then actually drinking just cause its illegal? Doesn't mean you can't do the same thing at uni - plus the freedom that it gives you.

Re: Leaving school depression?

no it aint, it is if you're stupid enough to select an area of study not suited to your interests...
If you go with something at uni which you have a keen interest in, you'll be fine

Re: Leaving school depression?

The OP's not a troll. I completely understand him and agree with him.

I think the only comfort/advice I can give is that life doesn't have to be so stressful and depressing. Sounds lame but life is what you make it. You can choose to live really simply. Like try and find work that you hav a passion for and like Ghandi (maybe?) said you will never have to work a day in your life.
I get depressed if I think I am going to have a similar life to those around me too.
I don't want just a desk job. I don't want to prgram computers for money.
THink about your worries and how to address them. What would fix them?
